FIRE with 20M yen?
Mmmm...good luck with that plan...

I wonder if that is because of the different interpretations of FIRE/retirement here.
Or is it people with family land/property/assets to inherit who don't have to worry about taking care of themselves 100% in later years?
Aiming to retire at 60 and live for a while longer. 95% index funds (eMaxis Slim etc), 5% Japanese dividend stocks.

Here's another eye-opener:
Retire/semi-retire with 10M yen.

He has a paid-off, cheap house, but he writes that he doesn't want to spend money, even at the 100yen shop.

He writes that he spend ¥35,000 in June to live. That’s ¥420,000 a year or a 4.2% withdrawal tax rate (after taxes) from his ¥10,000,000.
Not sure what he does about paying Nenkin (¥16,000) a month. And he benefits from free healthcare I suppose.

So not too far from what we preach here, you just have to be contempt with much less than most people.

With no income, they would get a full exemption from kokumin nenkin, and get 1/2 credits towards eligibility.
