the endless cruise

Kind of like the movie--The Legend of 1900.
For nearly two decades, Jeff Farschman, 72, has spent his golden years like many other adventurous retirees — enjoying leisure cruises to exotic ports of call.

But unlike many of his fellow cruise passengers, Farschman basically lives at sea. He spends months traveling the world’s oceans and waterways — half of the year, if not more. Although he still keeps a physical home near where he grew up in Delaware, Farschman is now part of a growing cohort of older folks who are literally “retiring” on cruise ships.

“Pandemic aside, I’ve been cruising for seven to eight months a year,” Farschman said. “I am a world traveler and explorer type and cruising has literally allowed me to see the entire planet.”
Back at the start of retirement, or just before, I looked at volunteering on the Peace Boat (english teaching). ~100 days for the round-the-world cruise. After some initial excitement/interest, I then stumbled across some youtubes of the crew accommodations...

Peace Boat has been on my radar for post-retirement, though I have mixed feelings about visiting countries/ports for just a couple of days. Most places I want to go need at least a week or two.

Literally? Like you drove across Texas in a cruise liner?

I have "literally" circled the planet, in that I have travelled overland from England to Japan three times: once by the TransSiberian railway, and once via New York, Atlanta, overland to California, and Hawaii, and once via SE and South Asia. I wouldn't claim to have seen the entire anything.

I was/am planning to do 2-3 trips a year, for 6-12 weeks each, in retirement :D

For each of those, we will go to one place and just get to know it. France, Mexico, Spain, Thailand, New Zealand are on the list at the moment.
