Hi, everyone I have registered Rakuten Securities account in order to open NISA account. My account is completed and Rakuten has sent me an information to login. I need to register some information first and one of the steps is office registration which I'm not sure what to do. In this section, I need to pick whether I'm an employee in a listed or unlisted company.
The company I worked with is listed on AIM on London Stock Exchange and it isn't listed on any other exchanges or trading platforms according to share price information on the company's official website. At first, I picked the "employee in listed company" option but I have to register stock code. The problem is the stock code of my company is 3 Latin-alphabetic code while companies in Japan use 4-digit numeric code. I tried to put the company stock code but Rakuten website kept saying that I need to put numbers only.
I'm not sure how to proceed with this step. I'm wondering whether I am actually employee of listed company because I'm working in Tokyo branch office and the company isn't in Tokyo Stock Exchange as far as I checked in the website. Would you mind tell me what should I do in this step or who should I be contact with? Thank you very much for your help.
Rakuten Securities registration problem
Re: Rakuten Securities registration problem
It has been a while since I opened my Rakuten account but my recollection was that question was asking if you are considered an insider at a listed company not just an employee. (I recall having to answer the question because I am an insider at a company listed on the TSE but it of course had the 4 digit code.) Brokerage firms have to flag insiders because you can't trade your company's stock but that is not true for other employees. My recollection on the question might be incorrect; can you post the Japanese used in the question?
Re: Rakuten Securities registration problem
Thank you for your reply. There is not exactly a question but the topic is ご職業 and the drop down answers are, for example, 民間企業(上場)の社員 or 民間企業(未上場)の社員. I'm just a regular employee and my company is a Tokyo branch of the company located in Europe and it is listed in London Stock Exchange. If I picked that my company is unlisted, there are more questions. First one is whether I am a shareholder, the other is whether my parent company listed and the last one is whether I live with insider. I'm wondering in this case, would my headquarter be considered my 親会社?
Re: Rakuten Securities registration problem
I am not sure but it sounds like you are 民間企業(未上場)の社員 then later that the 親会社 is listed but not in Japan (which hopefully opens up an option that doesn't require the 4 digit stock code). I think you can call Rakuten with questions while you fill out the application. In fact my experience was that they eventually called me and even seemed to have done an online search about me. The account opening process took quite some time.jssbannon wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 12:52 pm Thank you for your reply. Re: Rakuten Securities registration problem
Thank you very much for your reply. The 親会社 section is still require 4-digit stock code however it says 当該企業が海外上場の場合は対象外 so I think I shouldn't have to say that my parent company is listed. I think I can move on to the next process and hopefully won't encounter any more problem. Thank you very much again for your reply
Re: Rakuten Securities registration problem
Sorry this wasn't more helpful For what it's worth, although Rakuten can be kind of difficult to deal with (setting up account and linking it to the Rakuten bank with your foreign name always seems complicated) I really appreciate the ways you can use points for investing and the very low commissions compared to brokers like Nomura. Good luck!Thank you very much again for your reply
