Small cap funds

Post by Yokohama »

I thought this was an interesting read and made me think more about small cap funds.

I currently have the majority of my portfolio in eMaxis Slim All Country. My understanding is that this covers mainly large and mid cap stocks and does not include small cap stocks.

It is not the first time I read about overweighting small cap stocks indicating that based on long periods of historically data this has performed well.

Searching for small cap stock funds, I didn't find many options. The " EXE-i グローバル中小型株式ファンド" fund is my best find so far, but I haven't figured out yet the ratios between the mid and small cap stocks in that fund yet. It has an actual cost ratio of 0.33, which is a bit high but still much lower compared to all the other active management funds I found.

Is anybody else deliberately adding small cap stocks to their portfolio? If so, which funds are you using?

Not sure it makes enough difference for a normal person to bother with.

At the end of the day we just need to save as much as possible, invest it in something relatively sensible for a long time, and leave it alone.

Of course people who hang out here probably enjoy fiddling with their portfolios, but I'd be surprised if it helped ;)

Vanguard VT covers small cap so if you want to really bet on the world, the Rakuten All World would be a good choice.

Rakuten all world or VT directly are great routes.

You can look at MSCI ACWI (Emaxis Slim All Country) and FTSE ALL CAP (VT/Rakuten World) and see that it does not make a major difference over time.

Here is 100% VB, VS 100% VT, vs 100% ACWI. 2000-now

A lot of that growth was in the last year, eh?

That has been in my Vanguard portfolio for a while and I can assure you that until 2021 it really felt like a laggard compared to VOO (S&P 500). It all seems to even out in the end.
