Crowdfunding

Post by Gulliver »

While reading over some of the woes small business owners are having here this came to mind.

When I came to Japan I was surprised to find that crowdfunding is a “thing” here. There’s a site called Campfire I occasionally check for projects (admittedly I usually do this just for grins to see the strange things on offer because, you know- this is Japan).

But the more I think about it, this has got to beat awkward business meetings with Japanese investors or having to pay back a loan after your business has already been beaten down. (For the site I mentioned go to the Japanese page to see projects.)

The big brokers are dipping their toes. Rakuten has a crowdfunding tab on their platform, and SBI has a separate service.

Check the TOS, usually with something like this there are few guarantees, and often little recourse.
