flying out of japan and returning..corona

For those who have returned to the UK you could not have asked for a greater contrast- Although the documents (PCR tests result and vaccine certificate) are checked Japanese side before you fly back. They are not looked at afterwards. You really do fly through Terminal 2 at Heathrow especially with the immigration E-gates. Then again I do think restricting access to tourists and having a pretty stringent re-entry process with testing and quarantine has kept a cap on Corona case numbers in Japan.

Could you expand on the restricting access to tourists - I assume you meant Japan restricting and not the UK? I booked a flight for me and my partner (not married, JP citizen) to go to the UK and hoping she won't be stopped on the way in!

seems all new flight bookings into japan have just been banned for the next month so situation has become even more restricted for all!

Yep. Looks like I'll be continuing my current 'no unnecessary movement' policy.

Still hoping to take a quick trip to Europe in May/June, getting less certain that will happen.

looks like they have now gone back to the policy of not allowing permanent residents to return to japan .
thin end of the wedge with coming from 10 african countries but this will presumably be expanded.
after being criticized for this policy before they have now gone back to it...PR status confirmed as meaningless..
kinda sad indeed.

They've actually gone further and asked the airlines not to sell tickets for flights into Japan.

yes-i added the article above-its a pain but im ok with that as it affects japanese citizens as well..

the permanent resident ban is something different and makes a mockery of PR.

I know alot of people on reddit are shouting that Japan is being racist but I honestly think they'd ban citizens if they could (they can't). The flight booking thing is their final workaround. They allow citizens to come in but oh hey, you can't book a flight. Thats a shame.

you may well be right!however end of the day still means that PR has been proven to be meaningless

Seems like Kishida is backing down and scrapping the airline ticket thing now
