I know this isn't your question but if you want points for Suica top-ups, the EPOS gold card allows you to designate SUICA (or any of like 50 retailers) as a point bonus store and you get 1.5% every suica charge.ToushiTime wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 6:04 am Thanks.
I hope I can get this card as I use Suica a lot for travel and shopping, and would like to get the 1.5% point rebate when topping up Mobile Suica.
I currently top up my Mobile Suica using the SumiTrustClub credit card, a legacy from my use of Citicard and Citibank.
Unfortunately, they stopped awarding points for Mobile Suica top ups on 16 March this year!
SumiTrustClub have gone downhill. They used to offer customer service at weekends and evenings but stopped that before the pandemic.
I only stay with them out of inertia and because they waive the annual fee for legacy cardholders.
For non-Suica shopping, they give out 3 points per 100 yen to some cardholders but their conversion rate when turning those points into cash is ¥2000 for every 8000 points, so in effect you get 0.75% rebate (0.75 yen back for every 100 yen spent). You can also convert the points into Amazon coupons and gifts, but I don't think the deal is any better. Rakuten Card often beats those rebate rates.
Pardon my ignorance, but if I cancel this SumiTrustClub card, will my Delta miles be safe?

Re: JR View Card and Middle Name
What's the yearly charge on that Epos Gold card?
The regular View Card costs only a few hundred yen per year and offers the same 1.5% on Suica usage.
Does the regular Epos card offer the same 1.5%?
Does the Epos card work with Apple Pay and Suica Mobile?
If yes, it might be worth a try, if my View Card application fails.

Epos Gold works with Apple Pay and Mobile Suica. You can choose 3 shops for the triple point thing. If you use the card for 500k a year, the yearly fee is waived PLUS you get 2500 points as a bonus (5000 yen a year otherwise). 1 million a year gets you 10,000 points.
Its a surprisingly good deal.

Sounds good.
You said Epos Gold gives you 1.5% on Suica usage / top-ups.
Is that when selecting Suica for triple points?
What do you get for vendors other than the 3 designated for triple points?
And just to confirm, does 1 point = 1 yen back?
SumiTrust Gold points equate to 0.25 yen (you get 2,000 yen of cash back per 8,000 points), but you get 3 points for every 100 yen spent - except for Suica, which they have excluded completely since March this year.

Yeah, 1 point = 1 yen usage. Seems like you can use the EPOS points to buy Amazon gift cards even.ToushiTime wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 10:54 pm Sounds good.

EPOS gives 0.5% earning normally except for the 3 shops you designate as point up shops. In that case, those get 1.5%

Re: JR View Card and Middle Name
Thanks,
Looks like a good card.
I just received a mail from my bank saying they have approved me for View Card account debits, so I think View Card has accepted me.
If not, I will go for Epos.
One advantage of View Card is it is issued by JR, meaning they are less likely to pull the stunt SumiTrust Club did and suddenly decide to exclude Suica from their points program.

Re: JR View Card and Middle Name
Bad news.
View Card called me to say they were cancelling my online application because my name didn't match the full name on my ID card.
I told them at the very start that I couldn't fit my full name into their crap online form, but they said to apply via their website anyway!
Yet again I have to wait for the papers in the post and fill out all my details once more.
What's the betting they don't even have the other details pre-printed on the form? At least SBI did that.
Sigh...
