JR View Card and Middle Name

Post by ToushiTime »

Hi, I am not sure which board to post this on.

Has anybody had any experience of applying for a View Card credit card from JR, such as this one?
https://www.jreast.co.jp/card/first/viewsuica.html

I have run into the middle name issue again.

I will try to speak to customer support tomorrow.

Just wondering how much hassle is involved.

I have the visa version, but as a family card through my wife.

Speaking from experience with Rakuten/Amazon cards here though.

A. If your name is Albert Bruce Carlon, enter it as Carlon, AlbertBruce. (This is how my J-Post bank account is set up, with the same naming convention).

B. Link your bank account DURING the approval process. This will help confirm your name. If you cannot do this, expect difficulties.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I know about merging the personal names.

I tried that, but I got an error message saying my name goes over the 18 character limit.

The name I put in the application form has to match my ID card (which includes a middle name), correct?

It depends. In my experience the bank account match was more important.

Sounds like you'll need to request the paper application.

Thanks I took your advice and linked my bank account during the application. I used an old bank account that excludes the middle name. It was set up before banks became stricter about exact ID card verification. The support staff said I may be able to circumvent the issue with View Card account name and the ID card not matching up perfectly, if the bank accepts the linkage.

That is my understanding too. They treat the linkage as vetting. Best of luck and fingers crossed.

Thanks.

I hope I can get this card as I use Suica a lot for travel and shopping, and would like to get the 1.5% point rebate when topping up Mobile Suica.
I currently top up my Mobile Suica using the SumiTrustClub credit card, a legacy from my use of Citicard and Citibank.

Unfortunately, they stopped awarding points for Mobile Suica top ups on 16 March this year!

SumiTrustClub have gone downhill. They used to offer customer service at weekends and evenings but stopped that before the pandemic.
I only stay with them out of inertia and because they waive the annual fee for legacy cardholders.

For non-Suica shopping, they give out 3 points per 100 yen to some cardholders but their conversion rate when turning those points into cash is ¥2000 for every 8000 points, so in effect you get 0.75% rebate (0.75 yen back for every 100 yen spent). You can also convert the points into Amazon coupons and gifts, but I don't think the deal is any better. Rakuten Card often beats those rebate rates.

Pardon my ignorance, but if I cancel this SumiTrustClub card, will my Delta miles be safe?

Sorry, no idea, but I would guess once the points are rewarded you're fine. They may expire though, check that out. My wife and I just spent our JAL points as they were set to expire.

I do not like travel reward points personally, they are less fungible. Rakuten, Amazon, and Suica points are easily spent on investment trusts and necessities.

Travel rewards lost their luster under covid. As did all those travel benefits....

Yes, I agree completely. You have to book way in advance to get a seat using Delta Skymiles. I probably won't be able to use them properly until I reach retirement :D .
I gave up collecting them and switched to the bonus points version of the SumiTrust/Citicard a few years back.
I retained the Skymiles after switching card at the same issuer, and from what I have read, Delta Skymiles last forever regardless of which card issuer you use. Based on that, I should be safe when I eventually say goodbye and good riddance to SumiTrust Club.

Ugh, tell me about it. I spent a lot of time and money getting status with all the airline alliances and several hotel chains
