Just wanted to ck on this-is it the case that even if you have permanent residency that non japanese currently cannot leave japan and return?
I understand that they let j residents back in last yr who were shut out originally -but as i understand it you cannot come and go as you please unlike japanese(though they have to do the 14days quarantine)..

Re: flying out of japan and returning..corona
They let anyone with a valid visa and re-entry permit in (for now). The PRs not being able to get in was only for a few months in 2020 and for specific countries this year (India and some others who originally had delta).
I suggest you join the Return to Japan Facebook Group as there's way more information there than here.

I'm not Japanese, and by great coincidence I'm sitting in Singapore airport now reading this, doing transit on my way flying back into Fukuoka. As somebody else mentioned the Facebook group "return to Japan support group" has all the information you need. Go fly!

You are doing Singapore Airlines from the UK? Also, being Fukuoka based I would like to fly into Fukuoka instead of Tokyo, is it possible?KyushuWoozy wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 8:29 am I'm not Japanese, and by great coincidence I'm sitting in Singapore airport now reading this, doing transit on my way flying back into Fukuoka. Yes on Singapore airlines you can fly either Manchester or London to Singapore, then onto Fukuoka. I just landed, all smooth no issues.
It makes a huge difference flying directly into Fukuoka because if you fly into Tokyo, because you are not allowed to take internal flight or any other kind of public transport, you would probably need to spend two weeks quarantining in a hotel in Tokyo at your own expense otherwise. If you fly directly into Fukuoka you can get somebody to pick you up at the airport to take you home and do your quarantine there.

You are lucky Fukuoka was an option.
My sons (dual nationals) came back to KIX at different times over the last 4 months, but not before they had a total of 6 flight schedule changes (cancellations with the airlines trying to send them to Tokyo instead).
Long thread for anyone looking for more advice:

Looks like that could happen this month. And new international students could be allowed in again.
I wonder how you prove it was business travel? Wear a suit and they confirm with the cabin attendants you worked feverishly* on a laptop throughout the flight?
You can take your own car or rent a car (or taxi) from the airport.
*Well. Maybe not feverishly...

Yes. Private car or designated private 'limo' service (not regular taxi) are acceptable.

IN the good old Pre-Corona days, Permanent Residency visa holders did not require a re-entry permit, we left Japan and returned on the みなし再入国許可 Has there been a change to that due to Covid, and now we need to get a re-entry permit before leaving?
