Yes agreed about trying to pick winners based on past performance. Next week tech stocks could go the same was as the emerging markets did in the 2008 financial crash :o

Was just posting to highlight that when looking at historical data, you need to match time spans, consider dividend yields etc. to get sensible comparisons. Ideally you'd consider investment tax structures as well, but things get more complicated then.
Indeed recency bias is so dangerous. There is a host of younger, less risk-averse investors on Reddit mostly in TQQQ. Their reasoning? Tech has done so well the last decade, I predict it will do so in the future. Similarly those in VTI and VOO with no international exposure.

Myself, I am 95% in global equities. However, I also carved out 4% to run HFEA (https://www.optimizedportfolio.com/hedg ... adventure/). The data was just too irresistible.

Oh, and 1% crypto, just so my son won*t give me a hard time if we are all paying for fried chicken with Ether at the konbini in the future.

And if you want further pizzazz/risk--or to complicate and confuse things(!)--add VGT to your watch list. ;)

Its holdings are different, but it seems to have a past performance that approaches QQQ (nasdaq).
For a moment, I thought I was going to get some pizza out of this!!

To get back on track, one thing I've read about recently is 'what will be next'. Maybe financials, or energy, or materials, or something about the US infrastructure deal, and so on.

Another suggestion that I've read about is emerging mkts--maybe their time is coming.

Then, I read something like this: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/lost-dec ... 47678.html

What do you think?

Well if we are back to reading tea leaves, my money would be on VALUE.

Outside of the style box, I would not hazard a sector guess.
