Re: Crypto trading platforms in Japan

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread - it's been really useful (and timely for me).

Let's say I'm a Brit, Japan resident, who wants to buy some bitcoin and hold for months or years. Based on this thread it seems bitFlyer is as good as any.

If I have bank accounts in both Japan and UK can I choose where to buy? https://bitflyer.com/en-jp/ or https://bitflyer.com/en-eu/? Does it make any difference?

BTW, https://bitflyer.com/en-jp/ homepage is in English (thank God). If I were to create an account and start gambling/investing, is all that in English too?

Thanks ...

I have not incurred any taxes yet related to crypto, but from a tax perspective I think it may be wiser to buy in the country where you are a tax resident. It seems Bitflyer in JP will provide the right documents at the end of the year to support the declaration of taxes if any.

Yes, it is all in English.

Update:
From the first question on this page: https://bitflyer.com/en-jp/faq/tax. "Do I have to report profits from crypto assets (virtual currency) trading on my final tax return?", it seems they just provide your trade report, so from that point of view it may not differ much whether you buy in JP or EU.

Thanks, however on reading the FAQ it says this:

"bitFlyer EU is currently only for residents of the EEA."

Here's a newbie bitflyer video (with a nice English accent):

BTW, for some reason I'm guessing anything held in bitflyer isn't protected under the Japanese deposit insurance scheme.
