You can use Rakuten Points to purchase stocks on Rakuten Securities. Point purchase needs to be enabled, and you also need to have 'funds' available to make the purchase, but then they will refund the funds and deduct from your point total. This only works for normal points, not the limited time variety.

It is an awesome benefit. I buy a separate and riskier Nasdaq 100 fund with my points. It allows me to scratch the FOMO itch by playing with the house's money. It is also fun to track your "free investment" separately.
When I retire in 30 years I will cash out my "points fund" on something ridiculous.
FYI if you have Tsumitate investments, set at least 1 yen worth of points to invest automatically. That increases your points modifies in the Rakuten ecosystem to some degree.

Ideally you should treat your points the same as you do any other money. Put it all in one pot, and then budget according to your priorities. You can spend points as cash via Rakuten Pay etc., so considering them more disposable than other funds isn't the optimal approach.

I think I was pretty open about my approach not being optimal. But thank you for the input all the same. Just a bit of fun.
At the end of the day the difference will be extremely minor.
I know many index investors who allocate 5-10% for fun investment. I'm just using a portion of a percent! Lol
Hi all,
I've read some of the details about middle name problems in the various Rakuten services, but I want to make sure I'm proceeding in the way that will cause the fewest headaches going forward. My details:
I already have a Rakuten Securities account.
I have a middle name, registered with Rakuten Securites as LAST FIRST MIDDLE, although my account info also includes a "mailing name" ("お名前(宛名用)") with just LAST FIRST.
I want to open a Rakuten Bank account, and also a Rakuten credit card, I guess.
The Rakuten Bank account application form available on the Rakuten Securities site pre-fills some of my info, as 性: LAST / 名: FIRST MIDDLE, but from this thread it sounds like the bank account and/or card might only accept FIRSTMIDDLE (no space)? Then again, I wonder if it would be possible to just use LAST FIRST since that's listed as my 宛名用 with Rakuten Securities.
I already have to change the pre-filled furigana anyway, as apparently "ー" isn't a valid symbol for Rakuten Bank.

What's the best way to go here?
The 宛名用 literally doesn't matter. What matters is the kana part of your name. Seeing as you already have a Securities account that has your middle name on it, you cannot avoid the problem everyone here as experienced with Card (the best way would have been to create a Securities account and then use no spaces in your first name). For bank, from my experience it seems they ignore spaces so you can create your account with them normally (exactly the same name as Rakuten Securities).
When you create the Rakuten Card account, try to do it with no spaces in your first name (LASTNAME FIRSTNAMEMIDDLENAME) and then when you try to link your card and securities together with tsumitate, you will likely get an error so you will have to call Securities to fix it for you on their backend.

I got some time limited points from an Ichiba purchase that expire at the end of September.
I've set Rakuten Energy to use points of exactly that amount, which gets applied "next month".
Will see if it works out.
Precarious, because if I use any points before then I think it'll prioritise the time limited ones, meaning I have to go back and adjust the amount to use in Rakuten Energy. But you can only change it until the end of the month. You still have about two weeks between the 1st and when the points are deducted to avoid using the points, and you can't change it if you do, meaning it'll either user regular points, Rakuten Cash, or revert to your regular payment method. Once again doesn't seem worth it but something draws me into the game.
This went through today, so confirmed it works.
As expected, I had to avoid letting Rakuten Pay use any points in the mean time (about a month), to make sure the points I set up in Rakuten Energy consumed the time-limited points. I don't think I'll bother next time, and I'll use the time-limited points via Rakuten Pay. But, could be a useful way to use time-limited points for people that use Rakuten Energy, but not Rakuten Pay.
Seems like Rakuten Ichiba is going to start calculating points on before tax price starting April 2022. This is effectively a 10% decrease in the number of points you can earn. Luckily this has no effect on Furusato Nozei.
