Come retirement I will basically be relying on a combination of the UK pension and Japanese pension. Hope the UK pension doesn't get any lower than it already is...!

Triple lock is not affordable at all- this is what you get with a pay-as-you-go state pension scheme- you are dependent on politician's hot air pronouncements. Japanese state pension- I know worth less than the British state pension but is funded by investments.

I wouldn’t be overly concerned about this. This year earnings have shot up massively, meaning the pension would be due to rise by something between 5 and 10% I think. In these circumstances I think it’s reasonable to scale it back. I would be pretty surprised if there was a wholesale abandonment of the triple lock, considering it was a Tory manifesto pledge and pensioners are a key voting group for the Tories.
