Danchi have a negative image, but I'm not sure if the term can really be considered pejorative. It's just the generic name for government or company-run apartment complexes, and many of the places are actually called danchi, as in 〇〇団地２号棟, etc. Of course, some snobs might refer to them pejoratively, but that would be their problem...

I may have overstated it. It seems to be a bit regional, and Tokyoites are definitely a bit snobbier. My understanding is no one wants to "say" they live in a Daichi, as it sounds like "I live in government/public house". Similar to the way "estate" has negative connotations in the U.K.

These statements do not of course reflect my own beliefs. I would trust any native speakers take over my own when it comes to language nuances.

Sorry, it wasn't my intention to call you a snob. I just that meant that although daichi may have a negative image, the term itself is neutral. People's views of them, however, are not.

Not that it is relevant to the topic, but the word danchi is also used in industrial parks (kougyou danchi 工業団地).

If the pets are allowed with an extra deposit, that means the owner is worried about the damage rather than the noise. Some cats will destroy all the wallpapers for example, which is definitely extra damage compared to a normal tenant.

My house allows pets for an extra deposit. I didn't pay the deposit when we had hamsters in a cage, but once we got cats we did pay it (although with a good 6 months late). You mention other people are keeping pets in the building, but they might be paying the deposit as well.

If you train your kittens well, you should be able to see the deposit back on your way out anyway.
