one day auto insurance

Post by regular »

Looking for your experience here.

My daughter is expected to get her Japanese driving license soon. She is a student who lives away. If she is with us, I want her to be able to drive but adding her to our regular insurance from SBI Sonpo increases our rate a lot.

I am driving a Prius, more than 20,000 Km annually. I also have sharyo hoken, economy plan, not full coverage. I and my spouse are the only insured drivers now, and we are in the highest age group (for maximum discount).

I found articles on one day auto insurance from Mitsui, NipponKoa and Tokio Marine. May I get an idea of what to buy, who to buy from and what NOT to do, if anything.

Sorry, I don't have the contact info, but we do what you're describing. Kids are here so infrequently that adding them is the wrong choice.

So if one is home and wants to drive, they buy insurance for that day(s). I think it's ¥500/day. Done on their phones.

No experience but my eldest is expecting to get a license soon. And I'm maxed out with my insurance discounts I'm sure adding young drivers would be expensive.
A google of 1日自動車保険 throws up a lot. Family Mart and some major insurance firms have phone apps for this.
But it all looks to be 800yen per day.

Either way I'm planning this as letting them drive my car is the safest, guaranteed way to ensure I'm not on the road the same time they are!

Why not rent a car for the day with both of you on the rental agreement?

I did this a few weeks back when I borrowed a friends car.

I used tyoinori.jp and paid around 800 yen a day for 2 days rental. Website is all in Japanese but not too difficult. I did it mostly from mobile site.

I think they have a linkup with Lawson too so you can do it from one of their machines in the conbini if you like (I haven't done this though)
