Hello,
I am about to apply for HSP visa with 80 points (July-2021) and after 1 year (July-2022) will apply for PR.
My question is, should i apply directly for PR after a year ?
AFAIK, HSP visa applicants will be processed in preferential basis, from official immigration website it says: "The application for Highly Skilled Professional will be processed preferentially – it will be processed within about 10 business days in case of the COE application, within about 5 business days in case of application for Change of Status of Residence or Extension of Period of Stay."
Can anyone who went through the post confirm such quick processing is true ? (5-10days) ?
HSP visa to PR processing time
Re: HSP visa to PR processing time
These are the processing times to obtain an HSP visa. The processing time to convert an HSP visa to PR is comparable to other PR applications, typically a few months to a year. The time strongly depends on where you are in the country and how busy the immigration office is.tofusoba14 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 7:20 am AFAIK, HSP visa applicants will be processed in preferential basis, from official immigration website it says: "The application for Highly Skilled Professional will be processed preferentially – it will be processed within about 10 business days in case of the COE application, within about 5 business days in case of application for Change of Status of Residence or Extension of Period of Stay."
Re: HSP visa to PR processing time
From my own experience, this is only true for a COE application (meaning you are not in Japan yet - but with the covid restrictions right now that is something different anyway). If you are in Japan and switch from an existing work permit to an HSP work permit it takes longer time for switching than just renewing the current one. How long also depends on which HSP visa, the size of your company and the quality of your documentation.tofusoba14 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 7:20 am it will be processed within about 10 business days in case of the COE application
Re: HSP visa to PR processing time
You might want to skip the HSP and go for PR directly one year later.
The main reason is that you'll have more flexibility to change jobs in the mean time. Also remember that applying for PR doesn't mean you will get it, so make sure you actually want the HSP status and the benefits/restrictions that come with it.

In my experience, the "preferential processing time" wasn't true and it took longer (weeks, but I don't remember exactly), and then they only did it quickly because I told them I needed it because I already had a job offer for a new company starting in a few weeks time. Plus if they ask for any extra documents, that can add weeks to the processing.
