My spouse keeps using enough thick blankets to keep you warm in the North Pole. Since I don't want to have a heat stroke, ....a fan and pointing it at the side of the bed where I sleep instead of using AC. Not a perfect solution, but has been working out for us.

Thanks for the advice. I’ve never tried a humidifier before. Do you have any model recommendations? You keep it right next to your bed?
I am sorry, but humid air is harder to cool and more expensive to cool. You will not more effectively cool a house by raising the humidity, the opposite is in fact true.

In the US I just got a cheap one off Amazon. I can't remember the brand. We kept it in the bedroom near the bed. Here we use one of those Sharp air purifiers with a built in humidifier. To be honest, I've only had problems with low humidity in the winter here.

True, but the OP was complaining about the air getting too dry when he used the air conditioner. Hence the humidifier suggestion.
+1 for the Nitori cool bedding. Our house is old so the insulation is terrible. A couple years ago I realised setting my a/c to 27º and keeping it on all night helped me sleep like a baby. It's like waking up in spring! And it's not too cool to be unhealthy.
Yeah I live in a new build in the city that is basically hermetically sealed. So the humidity doesn’t get in very easily. I don’t like opening the windows or vents because of the pollution and inevitable tobacco smoke that gets in.
I still find myself occasionally opening the balcony door expecting to get a pleasant breeze of fresh air, only to be assaulted by a blast of hot smelly pollution. It’s this time of year that always brings fevered dreams of moving to Hokkaido or somewhere up in the mountains. But then I wake up, walk down the street, go get a fresh croissant and coffee and forget about it all.

It's nice a cool when you lay down ... but it's not magic, it heats up as you lay on it like any other sheet. Still it's probably better than nothing.

It amazes me that the advertising for Heat Tec and other similar products confidently tells us that they raise body temperature by 2 degrees or whatever.

I have the latest model Mitsubishi whole home dehumidifier that keeps the air at a constant 50 percent humidity. This is ideal for human comfort and eliminates the moldy or musty smells that tend to creep in once humidity surpasses 60 percent. In my bedroom I keep the AC at 23 degrees constantly (never turn it off) and I sleep very well.
I can't imagine how anyone could use a humidifier during the Japanese summer. Was that a typo?
