Outside that:
Master of the remote controls, husband to a nagging wife, father to a hopeless teenager and I shall have my retirement in this life or the next.
 Your ‘rage masked as humour’ sagas as a financial services consumer here in Japan just gained more poignancy.

Sadly more Al Bundy than Maximus Meridius. Although I do share the same initials...
"What we invest in life, compounds for eternity". Oh. that's good.

Maybe I could become a financial services consumer rights campaigner!
Although I sense I'm stuck with my role as Cautionary Tale....

Just the combination. Seems kind of well-rounded :)

Work for an eikaiwa company as a contractor. Served me well to get my Permanent Residency and I love the flexibility. Earned pretty decent money before the pandemic. Now just ok. But am a bit sick of teaching English so am looking at expanding other income options.

I understand the sick of teaching English thing. I find I need to set myself/the student(s) a goal to keep both of us motivated. So an exam or a career aim (for example, I am now teaching a few prospective tour guides). It’s difficult in an eikaiwa setting where students may not have high self motivation and you might have classes with students dropping in and out. But if it’s eikaiwa you are sick of and not teaching per se, it’s worth considering English for Specific Purposes.

Professing various things 'full-time' at a downtown national university. I spend at least an equal amount of time looking after my boy (for whom I gave up a tenured job in Australia that paid a better salary), who'll turn 20 later this year but has the capabilities of an infant. Often I play guitar to him -- my only fan in Japan!

I'm a software engineer and now run my own one man company doing consulting, contracting, and hopefully selling software license and expending a little in the near future.

Is Adjunct Professor = Assistant or Associate Professor 助教授、准教授? Or part-time lecturer? 非常勤講師 ? (that is what I am, since retiring from company. I wonder if I can promote myself to Adjunt Professor... :x
