Occupations: What do you do?

Post by AreTheyTheLemmings? »

As a sort-of-companion to the Who's Actually Retired thread, I think it might be interesting to know what kind of occupations the RJ community have.

I run a small translation and copywriting firm.

During working hours.. Director for a gaishikei. (Fintech.).

Outside that:
Master of the remote controls, husband to a nagging wife, father to a hopeless teenager and I shall have my retirement in this life or the next.

Adjunct professor at a few different universities. Academic English, and General English.

It seems in the Tokyo area a PHD and better Japanese are needed for tenure.

Or ....I could move out of Kanto.

I work at a university (but only until the end of March!), help my wife run a language school, write boring stuff (English teaching materials and non-fiction articles/books), and run a niche website (that's more of a hobby at the moment, to be honest).
English teacher and writer. RetireJapan founder. Avid reader.

US-trained physician working in pharmaceutical R&D at one of the Japanese international pharma firms. I also have adjunct teaching responsibilities (only one or two lectures a year) at several universities in Japan and overseas.

Brewer of beer. I use to think about making it a full-time gig, but why ruin a good hobby? Not for the money, that's for sure.

Day job: Tenured prof, lucky to get hired when a PhD wasn't essential (2 MAs though). Japanese is decent, and at our uni essential.

I'm envious (of the place, not salary, lol).
I worked in Iida in the late 90s. Beautiful place.

Walked the dog this morning, maybe 30-35min, then breakfast. Went for a ride, came to 25km/85min, but towards the end met a friend down at the river and we sat in the shade and talked for a while. Back home for a shower, late lunch, some laundry. Was thinking of a nap but then had some coffee. I'll take the dog out again before dinner, wife is cooking tonight. I play with photography some, a long time hobby--a shot of a flower I passed on the ride:
