My paper one is no longer valid because we moved and the address doesn't match. You can do stuff with a jyuuminhyou printout, but generally not online (need to download paper forms and submit by post). Looking at a lifetime of that, I figured just getting the plastic card is the path of least resistance.

Interesting timing. I never heard about the 住民票 (Jūmin-hyō) until today. Apparently, TransferWise requires a My Number card or Jūmin-hyō to open a business account.
