If you don’t mind me asking, what made you break?

My paper one is no longer valid because we moved and the address doesn't match. You can do stuff with a jyuuminhyou printout, but generally not online (need to download paper forms and submit by post). Looking at a lifetime of that, I figured just getting the plastic card is the path of least resistance.

Building a home made me break. The amount of 住民票s and 印鑑証明書s needed for all the paper work, being able to print them at the convenience store was a blessing, that and the 5000 rakuten points was also a nice bonus.

Interesting timing. I never heard about the 住民票 (Jūmin-hyō) until today. Apparently, TransferWise requires a My Number card or Jūmin-hyō to open a business account.
