how to buy eMAXIS Slim 先進国株式インデックス

Post by smartypants »

Stupid question but how to buy eMAXIS Slim 先進国株式インデックス?

I'm on Rakuten and they only seem to sell the ETF version https://www.am.mufg.jp/fund/182559.html

Thank you!

No stupid questions here!

You should be able to find it in the mutual fund section (投資信託).

RetireJapan's link just seems to link to the search page.

Here's the actual fund link:

By the way, you asked for the Developed Countries fund, but your link was to All Country ETF.

Here's the All Country fund on Rakuten:

To be fair, neither of us actually answered the question, which was how to buy the fund. 😇

I’m borrowing this thread to make a dumb question.

Since pretty much everyone recommends emaxis Slim index funds as the first buy, I'm considering buying it. However, appears that right now, comparing to the last months and last year, it got more expensive. Is it worth waiting for it to get cheaper, or should I just buy it and get started? Again, apologies for the dumb question.

Not dumb, because everyone has the same question. Some of the best and brightest minds our society produces dedicate their lives to trying to answer that question (and they get paid handsomely to try), and entire news networks and companies exist for that purpose. And while you'll hear plenty of reasons why it will or won't go up or down, the truth is nobody knows. The "it's expensive right now" argument could've been made almost any time since 2009, because the market has consistently hit new highs, but if you didn't invest because of that you would have lost out on the gains.

As long as you're playing the long-term game, you have nothing to fear by getting started.

In addition to what @mighty58 said, dollar-cost averaging over a few months may reduce your concerns if you are investing a lump-sum.

If you are going to start a tsumitate NISA or iDeCo, both are regular investments anyway, so there is no need to worry about the price. You can buy more when it is low, less when it is a bit higher.

The eMaxis Slim funds are also quite young, so we don't have the benefit of seeing their long-term trajectory yet. However, given time, as already noted, the price today should not be a major issue.
Aiming to retire at 60 and live for a while longer. 95% index funds (eMaxis Slim etc), 5% Japanese dividend stocks.

Dollar-cost averaging is not an optimal strategy. Lump-sum investing is preferable.

They are index funds, that show they are actively tracking the base index. They also come from an established firm that has offered the same funds for a long time, just more expensive! (The Emaxis (non-slim series)).

I say drop the lump sum in now.

.......

If you do decide to dollar-cost average, that is of course perfectly fine. But, it is important to know it is more a strategy for psychological comfort, vs statistical soundness.

Thank you all!
Now it makes more sense in my head.

Will just buy it and get started like it was suggested.
