Post by OkiBum »

To anyone looking to change mobile carriers, just an FYI, the cost of MNP which is 3,300 yen / number will become free from March 17th.

Great news. I am tempted to move to DoCoMo's new service but will continue thinking about it for a while.

Yeah, I am planning to move to Rakuten to make use of the 1 year free subscription and also around 5000 Rakuten points.

This is great news. Is there a mobile phone thread comparing the best offers from carriers?

I'm currently on the old Line plan but they've just emailed me to say theyre pulling VoLTE support. Having looked into it, it doesn't really affect what I use, but it's made me wonder if I'm on the best value plan.

Me and the missus set ourselves up with new handsets and mobile plans a few months back. Biglobe worked out best for us as they were offering a heap of points for handset purchase, but really a lot of the MVNOs were much of a muchness on price and content. No real standout. Line were competitive so you might be as well staying with them. Not sure if there is a culture here of asking them to move you to their best value plan, but might be worth a try.

If you do plan on making calls, and want to take advantage of the "free" minutes you get with your plan, be careful, as a lot of MVNOs require that those calls be made through their own app (on iPhones at least), not the regular phone app. Also missing from a lot of MVNOs is visual voicemail on iPhones.
