Hi all,
Just got my physical My Number Card (the plastic one), and knew you could link it to various other services to get points or cash back etc
So I linked it to my PayPay account. Great. No problem.
I’m trying to link it to my RakutenPay app but it keeps coming with an error. It just says something ending it できませんでした。but it doesn’t give any information why.
Am I correct in assuming you can link the myna card to multiple other services? Or can it only be done once/to one service?
Is there a problem with RakutenPay?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Connor

Hey KCLenny,
If you are talking about https://www.gov-online.go.jp/tokusyu/mynumber/point/ マイナポイント then you can only register your "My Number Card" with one payment service and receive the 5000 yen. Is this what you are after?Am I correct in assuming you can link the myna card to multiple other services? Or can it only be done once/to one service?

Re: Linking Myna Card to other services
Perfect. Thanks for that. So yeah, that’ll be why I can’t link it to Rakuten Pay.
But is there no way to do it? Unlink it from paypay? Or is the only benefit of linking the ¥5000?

As far as I know the only benefit to linking up your My Number Card is to receive the 5000 yen. Adoption of the My Number Card has been pretty slow - this was the governments campaign to get more people using itBut is there no way to do it? Unlink it from paypay? Or is the only benefit of linking the ¥5000?
Re: Linking Myna Card to other services
If you could pay 5000 yen to opt out of all the my number hype and get on with your life, would you?
I would, that's why I'm not bothering with Myna Points (or my number card...). If it's really necessary, they'll just enforce it.

My understanding is that it’s going to become more and integrated. This year you can merge it with your health insurance, later this year I believe it’ll merge with driving licenses. It just practical to get on a do it now. It’s not exactly a hassle to set up and you get ¥5000 for doing so.

Yes, it's coming for health costs, which will mean no more keeping medical receipts for a year to see if you go over 100k and can claim those costs--it'll be automatic, or you'll get a postcard similar to a 源泉徴収票 with the important numbers to use when filing (and the tax office will be able to check, too).KCLenny wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 10:13 am My understanding is that it’s going to become more and integrated. Wait, so if my medical expenses for a year are over ¥100,000 I can what? Get money back? I’m not sure what you mean.captainspoke wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 10:23 amYes, it's coming for health costs, which will mean no more keeping medical receipts for a year to see if you go over 100k and can claim those costs--it'll be automatic, or you'll get a postcard similar to a 源泉徴収票 with the important numbers to use when filing (and the tax office will be able to check, too).KCLenny wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 10:13 am My understanding is that it’s going to become more and integrated. But yeah, this is my exact reason. Seems super convenient to me.

Re: Linking Myna Card to other services
100k is the threshold for making a claim--getting a deduction.
Over that, and you get that much taken off your income for the year; under that and you're outta luck...
Note that if you have extra insurance that pays (e.g., for hospitalization, major disease), you have to include that, which can bring your personal cost down a lot (maybe even below the 100k level), or other reimbursements for going over a monthly cap. Also, this is for "necessary" medical costs--you cannot include the cost of a private room, pajama/towel rental, that kit of soap/shampoo that you can buy, etc. Those things just make your life easier and are not true medical costs.
EDIT: Transport costs to/from doctor/hospital checks are supposed to be claimable, but I've never included those.

Sorry for making the thread diverge even more, but does anyone know if there is an income limit above which this deduction is not applicable?captainspoke wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 10:43 am100k is the threshold for making a claim--getting a deduction.
