Re: Gamestop Discussion
Interesting discussions going on for this. I missed this unfortunately, but for future reference, is it possible to set a sell order on stuff in Rakuten? I.e. sell all if price hits "x"? And does this work against delays in orders due to us being in Japan? I.e. if it hits "x" we are guaranteed a sell at "x", or is there a chance it can hit "y<x" before our sell order goes through?

Rakuten does not have stop losses for US funds.Viralriver wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 7:08 am Interesting discussions going on for this. I am trading using my Canadian Wealthsimple account.
Re: Gamestop Discussion
SBI allows it since some time. There is for sure no guarantee that if it hits x it will be sold. SBI also allows stop-limit orders (eg sell below 10 USD, but only if it is still above 9 USD). I never used it, but like written in another post, if a stock or a market goes havoc, don't expect any guaranteed and fast execution.Viralriver wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 7:08 am Interesting discussions going on for this. As long as you held the securities in a tax-deducting account the broker would do your taxes and you wouldn't have to declare them.MajesticSoup wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 5:37 am Are the gains added to my residence tax? I assumed it would be a separate tax I'd pay at the end of the year or something.

On a related note, what's the advantage of a normal account if my broker will do my taxes for me in a 特定 account?RetireJapan wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 10:31 amAs long as you held the securities in a tax-deducting account the broker would do your taxes and you wouldn't have to declare them.MajesticSoup wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 5:37 am Are the gains added to my residence tax? Re: Gamestop Discussion
Actually I have a little money to burn, and thought it might be fun to purchase just 1 share of this, just see what happens. Will think of it as lost money. Doing this on Rakuten with my yen and horrible exchange rate, but will take this as a learning experience on how the site itself works as well.
My Japanese is not amazing, so a little confused on the order page. It seems I can only set the purchase price up to 150, which is actually less than the 3% above current price that is listed/described. Does this mean that when the market opens, if the price is above 150 my purchase order fails? Is there anyway to set a higher, but not infinite limit? Also, the execution requirement is 本日中... what exactly does this mean if I'm in Japan and I'm buying on the NYSE? Does it mean before the next close?
Thanks, and sorry for the stupid questions!

Did you set a market order or a limit order?
A market order will buy the stock at the current market price at open (or when received), I would not imagine Japanese brokers have great fill order.
A limit order will buy only at the target price (or below depending on the broker).
A limit order at 150 for Gamestop is unlikely to fill.

Yep a limit order. I'm 'happy' to waste money, but don't want to put no limit and it just goes crazy when the market opens. But it seems to set a limit order 150 is the max.. Would have been happy putting a limit of like 300 or so.

Strange. I am able to set limit orders at whatever.Viralriver wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 1:16 pm Yep a limit order. We'll see over the next hour what happens, but right now it looks like it's going to open in the 200's.
If you believe in regression to the mean (which you shouldn't during a short squeeze like this), then it's highly likely the price will dip to about 180 before blasting to the mid 200's at close, or higher. It's going parabolic at this rate.
By the way, Melvin on CNBC said that they "exited" but it seems a little sketch. I have been watching the volume and the price and 4 billion would have moved the price a lot more than the spike.
Tldr is--I'm still very bullish on a 24-48 hour scale.

They are all in with no exit strategy. I doubt most of them have slept all week.
Can you imagine? Good god, it is time for some reform in the options market.
