iDeCo and NISA on same company

Post by JimNasium »

Hey, first post here. I’m super excited to start saving for retirement, and this forum has been a lifesaver. I’m sure I’ll have 100 questions later, but for now I just have one.

Is there any advantages or drawbacks on having your iDeCo and NISA (Tsumitate) with the same company?

Welcome to the forum!

Advantages: same login (although some companies have separate login for iDeCo), only need to learn one website
Disadvantages: slight risk of having your account hacked and minimal risk of broker going bust or going down

Basically personal preference based on how lazy/paranoid you are.

One company might not provide the funds the way you want to invest in them.
For example, I invest into the eMaxis Slim All Country fund through both my iDeCo and my tsumitate-NISA. The iDeCo is through Monex, and the tsumitate-NISA is through SBI. SBI doesn't offer the eMaxis All Country through iDeCo.
That's why I use more than one company.
Investments:
Company DB scheme ✓
iDeCo (Monex) eMaxis Slim All Country ✓
新NISA (SBI) eMaxis Slim All Country ✓
Japanese pension (kosei nenkin) ✓
UK pension (Class 2 payer) ✓

I have everything at SBI, but the iDeCo is a completely separate system and may as well be a different company. So for SBI at least, there is no benefit to having both accounts with them.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I guess it would also speed up the approval process for your NISA if you already had an iDeCo account.

Both NISA and iDeCo need to be approved by the government, so I doubt having an existing account would make much difference.

Application form would probably be easier though :)

Hi all! Jumping on this to ask a similar question.

Does Monex service the iDeCo as well as NISA? I'd prefer to just use one company to invest eMaxis Slim All Country for iDeCo and NISA, but I haven't seen any talk about Monex and NISA...
