Need help on NISA!
Need help on NISA!
Hi I am fairly new to NISA. Last year in 2020 I opened an account with Rakuten Securities but then completely forgot about NISA. Today when I logged in, I realized that my NISA account was opened since 2020. So does it mean I can now take NISA advantage only until 2024 or if I start investing from this year then I can go up till 2025?
Re: Need help on NISA!
Each year's investments are tax-free for 5 years.
So anything you invest this year is tax free until the end of 2025.

to elaborate on adamu's comment, you have 0 yen worth of tax free investments going forward into 2024. Your investments this year go until 2025, etc.
Re: Need help on NISA!
Thank you for your replies. I understood that my NISA investments in 2021 will be tax free until 2025. What about the investment in 2022? Will it be tax free until 2026? Also will I be able to invest in NISA scheme in 2025 which can be tax free until 2029 or my last chance to invest in this scheme will be 2024.

Re: Need help on NISA!
The scheme currently runs up until 2028, though it may well be extended. So you can invest 1.2 million yen (1.22 million from 2024) each year until then. Your money can grow (or shrink!) tax-free for 5 years. At that point you can choose to have the investments turned over into a taxable account or to roll over your investments into a new NISA allowance. Ben explains the rollover system here: https://www.retirejapan.com/blog/rollin ... a-account/
So, 2021 investments will be held tax-free until the end of 2025
2022 investments to the end of 2026
2023 to 2027...
2028 to 2032
