With regards to choosing between NISA and Ideco, my suggestion would be to set up Ideco with an amount that you feel you can comfortably afford every month and then put any extra into NISA.

For example, you could set up Ideco with 10,000 each month and then any extra could be put in a normal NISA, or you could set up Ideco and つみたてNISA with 10,000 each a month knowing that you can always adjust the amount of the つみたてNISA during the year if it's too much or too little.

He stated his plan is to save for retirement. So maxing out iDeco is a better move.

If he is Cat. 1 or Cat.2 I think maxing it out should be doable with his goal of around 2 万 a month. Definitely harder as a cat. 3 though.

Yes, maxing out Ideco is definitely preferable, but only if you can commit to paying that amount every month.
Setting a lower amount than the maximum contribution isn't an optimal strategy in terms of tax deductions, but it gives you a chance to get started rather than procrastinating over whether you can afford 10,000, 15,000, or 20,000 each month.

Sorry, i failed to notice the replies on this thread.

I think that maxing out the iDeco would be the best option for me.
And as I said in a different thread, i have a lump sum that i want to invest, most likely in NISA. (about 200-300thousand yen) Now I am researching what to invest in with the lump sum, and what to invest in for the iDeco...

Any advice is welcome.

thank you
