FP3 Certification

Post by paul »

Any thoughts from people who have done the test, or given up part way through studying for it, etc?

I'm thinking of making getting the Financial Planning 3kyuu certification one of my resolutions for 2021. It's mostly for personal interest, but it's always nice to have a certification of some sort. As far as Japanese goes, I passed N1 many years ago and speak Japanese at work, so the language itself isn't really an issue, but the terms are obviously harder than what you deal with in everyday conversation. I did get a study book a few years ago and made it through a couple of chapters without too much trouble, but then got sidetracked by other stuff and couldn't bring myself to pick it up again.

Ha, ha, that is exactly where I am. Took the test twice, passed the 'practical' part (on investing) and failed the theoretical paper. Never got round to studying the last two chapters in my book (real estate and inheritance) and predictably bombed on those sections.

Now planning to take it again in September and assuming I pass, go for 2 kyu the following year if I end up unemployed ;)

I'm still not totally sure what's on the test. What is the theoretical paper? If I have to write an essay in hand on paper I will be out for sure

FP3 and FP2 are multiple choice. FP1 requires you to handwrite, and there is an interview section. The pass rate for that one is only around 10%!

FP3 is pretty easy from what I saw when I took it. Just need to learn the material and (in my case at least) the kanji.
