Just switched from Rakuten to Monex

Post by blos »

And there is 0 months gap. Everybody was doing a scary talk that I'll lose at least a month of contributions if not two.

Maybe I got lucky with the timing. I submitted the paperwork mid-December, and a month later I got the paperwork back showing my new account at JIS&T. The new account was obviously empty, but it was there and showing I've been a member for that 3 years. Old account still works and the December payment is shown there.

Come January 26th and I see iDeCo withdrawing their usual 23k, and now it has appeared in the new account. I just got some more paperwork about switching the accounts that shows the balance at the time of switching, and explains not to worry because it takes a little bit time for that money to reflect in the new account.

Maybe they've streamlined the process so one doesn't lose contributions?

I signed up for my iDeCo through Monex in November (first time iDeCo). I pay in 12,000 per month (my allowable maximum).
On January 26th, they took 2 x 12,000 = 24,000 from my bank account for December and January.
I wasn't moving from a previous provider like you, but it's good to know that if I were, I wouldn't have missed out on my December payment while the move was taking place.
Investments:
Company DB scheme ✓
iDeCo (Monex) eMaxis Slim All Country ✓
新NISA (SBI) eMaxis Slim All Country ✓
Japanese pension (kosei nenkin) ✓
UK pension (Class 2 payer) ✓

That's what happened when I opened my SBI account too. The process took a while, but then they took 2 months payments at once and backdated one of them.

Nice to know!

I am also thinking to switch from SBI to Monex as well, because they have the nice eMaxis All Country fund that we love here <3

Now I am having 100% in bonds (野村外国債券インデックスファンドDC) and do not really like the exe-I low cost wrapper funds offered by SBI for stocks. My idea is to keep the bonds allocation and switch to world stocks in the future crisis (if any). I am not in a rush, but I would rather prefer to switch to eMaxis All Country fund (in Monex) than the exe-I wrapper funds, which are also double the price in maintenance fees.

I have one question though, blos. What does it happen with all the contributions made in the previous broker account? I guess that as the funds line-up differs, they will ask you which fund do you want to switch that money to (in my case from SBI to Monex, in yours from Rakuten to Monex), or does the previous broker sell the fund and transfer the cash to Monex and then you can choose which one to buy in Monex from scratch?

Thanks in advance and happy to see that no contributions are lost at all :D

This is all good news! I started the process of opening a Monex account.

I am still a little unsure about moving my iDeco.

There are advantages to have an FTSE ALL CAPs fund administered by Vanguard over a MSCI ACWI account fund.

However, are those advantageous worth the extra fee?

(I have Emaxis Slim All Country in my Nisa/Taxable and Rakuten Global Equities in my iDeco)

After reading through several blogs yesterday I reconsidered the switching from SBI to Monex because of a couple of reasons

1) Switching iDeCo provider would cost me 4,400 yen of penalty (移換時手数料).
2) SBI seems to have a plan upgrade from their "Original" fund lineup to a "Selecto" fund lineup with 0 yen cost. This new plan offers more variety of low cost funds as well as many eMaxis Slim options (unfortunately not the eMaxis Slim All Country (incl. Japan) fund, but at least the combination of eMaxis Slim All Country (excl. Japan) + eMAXIS Slim 国内株式(TOPIX)

I have explained in details in this thread below:

Just to be clear

1. They charge you 4400 Yen

2. They sell your funds in your original iDeCo account.

3. You rebuy all your funds within the new Monex account

4. This all takes 1-2 months. You cannot control when they sell or buy these assets.

.....

Hmmm perhaps I will not do this. Why did you move your account if you do not mind me asking?

I was going to move to switch between these two funds. However, perhaps the 5O basis points are not worth losing the small-cap exposure and the 4400 yen?

楽天・全世界株式インデックス・ファンド

You mentioned on another thread that you're with Rakuten.

I don't see a fund in their iDeCo lineup called 全世界株式インデックス・ファンド for 0.212%, so not sure what you're referring to.

The Rakuten Vanguard fund follows the FTSE Global All Cap index and costs 0.162%.

Thank you for the correction, I copied the wrong name.

楽天・全世界株式インデックス・ファンド , the Rakuten World Fund has REAL COST of 0.261% according to Shintaro-money [1]

and .246% according to Diamond [2].

See 実質コスト under-> https://shintaro-money.com/basics-of-fu ... ense-ratio

[1] https://shintaro-money.com/rakuten-vanguard-vt/
[2] https://diamond.jp/articles/-/131949

So it is a 50-60 point difference depending.

I think that's the fee for the Total US Stock Market fund 楽天・全米株式インデックス・ファンド
