Re: FBAR

Yes, I don't have JP, but my local Shinsei branch closed a few years ago--now I use their Tokyo HQ.

Re: Hospital Experience Yesterday

This was the initial repair after a bike accident. Really just to stabilize the big potato chip.

But for anesthesia (the connection to this thread), only 2 days of the strong stuff (spinal) after surgery, then NSAIDS.

Re: Adult Children Born with Dual Nationality

I asked my wife--neither of us had ever heard that there was an actual form (as discussed above). I think both of ours (in their 30s) have had one if not two passport renewals after turning 20, and while the form may have been mentioned to our kids at the passport office (on application, or pickup),...

Re: FI/RE Financial Independence, Retire Early

Pre-FIRE, I think Penang was a common destination for japanese retirees back in the 90s and before.

How to deal with a full message folder on this board?

I'm getting the message: "Folder is 100% full (50 out of 50 messages stored)" and apparently cannot read or send more until I delete some of them to make room.

How do I do that? --And I have browsed around some looking for how to do that, but it seems I can't find the answer... :?

Help?

Re: Rakuten login issues - Security

For my US account, the broker sent me a security dongle like this. I've even had this replaced maybe twice--they overnight a new one via fedex. Has this kind of 2FA been discussed as one of the options for increased security here? You do have to call in to do setup confirmation on receipt, to get th...

Re: US Government Pension Loophole

Minor point, but social security--while not exempt as described above--is (at least?) classed as a public (公務的) pension.

Re: Yen keeps going from strength to strength!

I'm expecting (at some point) a 40% drop in the global stock market along with the yen strengthening to 100 or so, meaning a temporary 60% drop in our net worth. For me that is a realistic worst case scenario, and I hope I will be okay with it. But people need to be thinking in those terms if they ...

Re: Medical Insurance (Health Insurance) System after Retirement

AFAIK, it is not covered by shigaku kyosai. I forget what was happening in the first few months after retiring, but now kaigo/介護保険 is taken out of my national pension payment. There may have been actual slips/bills at first, but during that time I was trying to get everything auto-deposited/auto-ded...
