Re: Thinking about early retirement - some basic questions
Some answers are obvious but probably worth mentioning Once we reach age 60 we do not have to contribute to the pension system. The current law says that we can begin to receive pension payments at age 65, but the government has openly called for moving that to age 70. So you need to factor that int...

Hello all, On occasion I have posted some advice for those seeking it, now its time for me to ask a question. I hope someone here has had a similar experience and can provide some feedback on how the system works. We have an appointment with our accountant so its very possible they can answer the qu...

Re: Summer Heat
yeah I just can't get my nut around it. the solution is SO BLIPPING SIMPLE its almost a willfull disregard of the laws of nature I won't start on the men in black suits turning the office AC down to 24 or so, forcing others to wear sweaters in summer rather humorous if not so sadly serious enjoy bli...

Summer Heat
Hello everyone, I hope you are able to stay cool this summer. Its a subject that has been bothering me for a number of years so I thought I would share some thoughts about it. Shade is the solution. I don't know how, when or why it happened in Japan but metro areas in this country are barren of any ...

House Insurance
Has anyone had any luck finding better insurance ? Crikey the rates are high. Earthquake payouts cover perhaps the cost of clearing out the collapsed house and not much more than that. The fire payouts are decent enough so at least we don't have to worry about burning someone else out of their house...

Re: Internet providers
We use Yahoo BB. Its been relatively smooth but recently the service has taken a nose dive. Clearing the cache did help matters, as did unplugging the modem. A competing regional company rep stopped by the other day claiming they were cheaper and just as fast. I passed on the opportunity, but kept t...

Re: Buying a house next year
I have some questions that perhaps will help us all better understand your decision making. Why are you choosing a new property ? How old is "not too old" ? I ask because in general the Japanese consumer favor new buildings which places a premium on them. Traveling during Golden week is a ...
