Re: Australians, let’s chip in for a willing and competent Tax Lawyer w
Aust I am in the same boat as you (can't find anyone with any idea.) It is impossible to make decisions (such as making voluntary contributions to super, buying stocks such as lic's with fully franked returns etc..)without knowing this information and the correct tax implications. It would be a huge...

Re: Australians, let’s chip in for a willing and competent Tax Lawyer w
couldn't agree more AustinJapan. this situation is ever so confusing. I am basically resigned to the fact that I will never work longer than 10 years in Japan. And when I retire I will enter and exit on tourist visas. I think you can do this up to 180 days per year. I am not going to pay ridiculous ...

Re: Australians, let’s chip in for a willing and competent Tax Lawyer w
This is definitely an idea I would consider. Taking all the tax implications into consideration I am having serious doubts about staying in Japan long term. Not only do you sacrifice a huge amount of income in the first place, you get doubly rolled with the tax implications. When/if I move back I wi...

Re: Inheritance Tax
Thanks so much for that. This website is extremely useful and has helped me a lot. In regards to inheritance tax, I guess the only thing I can say is (it is definitely not in my best interest to get a spousal visa or stay in Japan longer than 10 years.) If I was to work in Japan as a teacher, is the...

Re: Inheritance Tax
Great article, but I'm still a little confused: Are my basic calculations correct? so if the estate was worth 1,800,00 split between 4 people first I would deduct 30million/ ($270,000) then another 6 million divided by 4 ($220,000). this would make the taxable estate $1,310,000 divided by four peopl...

Inheritance Tax
Hi all, I am a little bit confused about this potential situation: If I was to inherit say 460,000 USD or 51 million yen (the estate was 220 million yen or 1.85 million USD and divided amongst 4 of us, ne being the the only person required to pay tax in Japan. How much would I be taxed in such a sce...

Wills in Japan
Hi all,
Most of my assets are in Australia. My wife on the other hand has cash and stocks in Japan.
Does anyone have any information about the process of making a will in Japan?
Regards!

Re: Expat Pension adviser for Australians?
Thanks for that reply Aust! My thinking is the same as yours. However, until I get the info confirmed I will keep investigating. Thanks for the link. I haven't tried that one, but will. I am also worried that unless someone specializes in Aussie tax (and basically knows the ins and outs of the tax t...

Re: Tax on Fully Franked Dividends
Thanks for your reply. It is a big issue for me moving forward. Such dividends are not even required to be submitted to the ATO ion a tax return n Australia (as they are already taxed.) if they are taxed and these are my income stream when I retire I would like to know how much the Japanese governme...

Re: Expat Pension adviser for Australians?
Thanks for the reply! I am not looking for financial advice as I have a system that works for me. I am more just looking for advice on tax as this could effect the system I have created when I eventually settle back into life in Japan. I have contacted SMATs and Shane McFarlane. Both of them could o...
