Re: Buy STRV in japan? possible.

Thoughts? VOO is run by vanguard. Engine no.1 is the mechanism used to do their activism in favor of ESG so investing in VOO is more a neutral "do whatever" stance. While STRV is more a "No, do whats best for the investor" stance. Vanguard couldn't run a Pro-ESG fund AND the reve...

Re: Buy STRV in japan? possible.

Why this fund interests me is the S part of ESG is "Social" which currently has "Diverstiy Inclusivity and Equity" embedded into it. It seems to me that businesses should choose on excellence alone rather than quota systems to try to achieve equality of outcome. An interesting yo...

Buy STRV in japan? possible.

The concept of the S&P500 but without the activism of ESG scores appeals to me. Is there any place to buy STRV:us in japan? It doesn't seem to be available via SBI. The ETF seems to be the same as VOO but with a focus on expecting the companies to hire the best person for the job rather than inc...

Re: Regular Nisa or つみたてNISA -> What is the right choice?

The thing that keeps me away from Tsumitate NIsa is you're locked into it. If felt confident that I was going to get a regular salary and be able to contribute at every option for the next 20 years it looks appealing. But I'm freelance so its money-on-money-off flow. I worry that when the lean times...

Re: Dividend Paying Funds

As I understand it, the argument against paying dividends from an investment perspective is: I want my money to increase in value as much as possible from the point in time when I put it there. Any dividend is the company taking any profit made by the company AFTER paying tax on it then giving me a ...

Re: Sony Launches English Online Banking Service

It has a nice feature where you can purchase foreign currency when the rates look good, then when you visit that country you use the cash. NZD always seems to get a worse exchange rate coming in to southern hemisphere summer, so buy in winter, use in summer works well. Only caveat is that you can't ...

Re: The corona effect

..... In microcosm, that may happen to my wife's business. We'll ask the landlord to give us a rent reduction if we are forced to close, which would give us a couple more months of runway. Difficult times. I recall hearing a report about Italy that the banks stopped requiring mortgage repayments. I...

Re: The corona effect

Any thoughts on what is happening to REITs? 1476 iShares REIT ETF is down nearly 50% since the start of this, and 12% today. I obviously understand there will be an overall drop as retail is struggling, possibly some companies will move to more wfh? But can't understand why it's continuing to fall,...

Re: Permanent Resident Visa

The flip side, its not guaranteed. I've been living in japan for a couple of decades now and been rejected for PR every time. They still renew my visa for 3 years each time though.

So yeah, get the visa.
