They've bumped it up to 4.7% (US$ only)
It's very easy to buy if you have a Prestia account. Especially if you already have US$ in a US$ account. Though converting yen to $ is less painful than it has been recently.
Happy holidays to all.

Re: 4.5% interest on USD at Prestia
I think that US citizens cannot open accounts at Japanese brokers. That's the case, right? So I think that Rakuten, SBI and Money are probably not available to me. If it's not too much trouble, could you post the current rates for USD T-bonds, MMF, and Time deposits at these institutions? I'm wonder...

Re: 4.5% interest on USD at Prestia
If I understand correctly, you are keeping a years spending in an account with little or no interest. Understandable. I've done this myself for long stretches. I have no problem keeping my most liquid cash in USD. It originates as USD and I can bring it here (to Prestia) at no cost. The usual advice...

Re: 4.5% interest on USD at Prestia
<t>The I bond is an option. The current rate is 6.89%. That can change after 6 months.

Downsides are that you can buy only $10K/year, and I'd have to open a new account with the US treasury. I've got more than $10K in the time deposit.

Where are residents of Japan keeping thei...

4.5% interest on USD at Prestia
The rate for a one-year time deposit in USD has recently gone up to 4.5% at Prestia. They withhold tax so after tax it's 3.58%. This seems like a good deal to me and I've recently put some money into it. I'm a US citizen and so I have dollars, and I don't have a good place to park them at the moment...

Re: wiring money to Japan from the US
I am a US citizen and long-term Japan resident. I have been a customer of both financial institutions involved in these transfers for well over 20 years. I have started wiring money from the US to Japan this year. I have been surprised at how easy it it and there has been NO cost. My US funds are at...

Re: US IRA and J Taxes
Thanks for the ideas. I'll be getting answers from an accountant when I start doing my taxes this year. Will post anything interesting. But maybe there are few people here with US IRAs. There are dividends being reinvested in the IRA, and this is recorded as purchases, but nothing appears in the yea...

US IRA and J Taxes
Hello, I am a US citizen and long-term resident of Japan. I am following all of the rules regarding taxes, which is a hassle and requires 2 accountants. I have questions regarding US issues that Ben will not know about, but it would be great to hear from someone has experience in these areas. Eventu...
