Re: How Much Rent you pay
70k on the outskirts of the 23 Tokyo wards. 1K "mansion" which is really all I need at this stage of my life. That's give or take around 25% of my income after tax. Utilities are another 10-12k, which is still under 30%. Putting the rest into investments and working towards a house deposit.

Re: Occupations: What do you do?
On paper, I'm an editorial department manager. I work for a digital marketing firm that targets an international audience. I manage people and projects, I give consulting services to whoever wants to market towards the demographics I know best, and I do quality control on finished products and servi...

And one option that isn't that well-known: You can save upwards of 10% or even more on costs if you buy from someone directly: No broker's fees and no consumption tax. Real estate agents will often have properties of their own. We've now purchased three houses near us by simply asking around and fi...

Re: Buy or wait?
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for their sound advice. After doing some more research and calculations, I contacted a couple of real estate agencies staffed with people who could speak English to see what they had to say. All of them not only pushed me to borrow way more than I was comfo...

Re: Buy or wait?
Most residential mortgages won't let you rent out a property (you need a commercial mortgage). Check the terms and conditions with your lender. Rent may or may not cover your costs (run the numbers and err on the side of caution to be sure). I'll definitely check that with them, thank you. I don't ...

Thank you for your reply!
I'll definitely be here for at least 5-10 years, and if something comes up, I'm contemplating on renting the property out. Is there anything I should be aware of in the case that I have to rent it out?

Buy or wait?
Hi all, it's been a hot minute since my last question and I'm back with another one, this time on the idea of purchasing a "mansion." I've been living in a share house for a while and due to various factors, I've been thinking about making the move to rent my own place. However, someone br...

iDeCo and Year-End Tax Adjustment
Hello! I'm an investing newbie who is in the process of opening up an iDeCo account with Rakuten. One thing I've been pondering on is how 年末調整 (year-end tax adjustment) will work. I'm reluctant to ask my current company to do the whole 給料天引き (taking directly from my wages) for various reasons. So fo...
