Re: NISA at 47 years of age

As has been said: 1.) you can invest 3.6M per year, so you can max it out in the next 4 years. 2.) your asset allocation is weird. Default is a simple emaxis slim all country. Only deviate from that if you can explain your reasons very well. Then, my personal opinion: stop thinking in YEN. Instead, ...

Re: Ideco - Recommended point to switch focus to Nisa.

Agree with what TunaSki said. The question is basically: the flexibility of NISA or the financial advantages of ideco. That is what will make your decision.

Re: Ideco - Recommended point to switch focus to Nisa.

In general, ideco is better. The reason is that with ideco you save on income tax (even if you pay a little bit tax later on) AND largely on capital gains tax. If you put amount X into ideco instead of NISA this year and then fill your NISA later, you only "lose" out on the partial capital...

Re: Getting partly paid in USD (or EUR)

The other posters are right in that it's a pretty annoying thing. And actually, there is very little real "benefit" for you anyways. I would only do that if I would have to often go to countries that use USD (or EUR) and/or pay things there. But in any case - if you decide to do it, here's...

Re: Simple Q&A - iDeCo

Thanks guys, but I'm still a bit confused. So when moving to Japan e.g. next month (December), does it make sense in terms of tax benefits to start ideco from January next year - or will the benefits be bigger when starting one year later? (ofc even with "lower" benefits in the first year,...

Re: Simple Q&A - iDeCo

When coming to Japan, tax is is paid on the previous year's income. So the tax for the first year is paid in the second year.

Does that mean that it only really makes sense to start with iDeCo in the first year? Or will starting in the first year reduce the tax that has to be paid in the second year?

Re: iDeCo annual payment

This is great. I think making the contribution at the end of the year is beneficial (if you don't forget it) because it might happen that you e.g. get fired during they year and then your tax burden gets much lower and you might need the money for other reasons. The reduced fees are also great but m...

Re: Strategy for the 2025 NISA

Depends on your current gains, how much you currently have, what the fees of your broker are and if you can (and want) to fill NISA with salary and other savings. Without these info it's hard to give advice.

Re: Buying stocks in NISA directly with USD

Incidentally you can convert USD to JPY for the market rate (no spread) within SBI Securities at the moment (usually they charge a 0.25 yen/$ fee, but it's been waived since Dec 2023). https://s.sbisec.co.jp/smweb/pr/gaccnt.do?page=home_info231204_exchange Oh, very interesting. I wonder - do they m...
