Re: Overlapping end-of-work vacation and New Job
Somehow this is relevant to me now. I am about to join a new company. The notice period in my previous company says 6 weeks, but I gave my notice 4 weeks prior to my requested end date. When they asked about it, I just politely requested that date and mentioned a bit about Japan labor law requiring ...

Re: Shinsei Bank to end free ATM withdrawals
This is sad indeed.
One of the two reasons on why I applied a bank account here ; the other was I got the card in Pink
Well maybe this is for the best -- in my case -- as I just decided to use this card as an emergency account!
No more reasons to withdraw money

Re: What are you most proud of financially?
I guess when I started my small step to open investment accounts (and actually started investing) I was very scared at first due to different mindset about money. But my most recent job (plus RetireJapan of course) helped me in the process of shifting these and slowly build my investment portfolio. ...

Re: Cheapest / Best Moving Company (引越し業者)
Remember to suck your teeth, get them into the gankan and keep muttering “muzukashii”. Doors will open... Hahaha! I cannot imagine myself doing that now but I will practice in the mirror! Yesterday I bought a fridge and washing machine in Yamada Denki. I told them I wanted them both for ¥200,000 an...

Re: Cheapest / Best Moving Company (引越し業者)
^^^ Whichever company you end up using, though, this is the key. Have reps from the companies visit you and give you quotes, then play them off against each other. Be canny and cagey about it--they sure are! Don't tell the reps how much the other companies quoted you--just let them know it was less...

Thanks Ben!RetireJapan wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 12:05 am We have always gotten quotes from 2-3 companies and gone with the cheapest. You can reduce the price by letting them choose the day and time, and by moving at less popular times of year (like now).
Anyone else?
Will do the same
Do you have any go-to companies for quote inquiries?

Re: Changing brokerage account for my NISA
My understanding is that you can open your 2019 NISA with a new broker, but cannot move your current Rakuten one (unless you sell everything and take the money out, but even then you would not be able to reopen the NISA). Thanks Ben! I just found one useful info from Rakuten. Apparently it is possi...

Cheapest / Best Moving Company (引越し業者)
Hi,
We are planning to move in a new apartment soon.
Do you have any recommendation on which moving company is the best in terms of price and service?
We are a couple, our current apartment is 2DK with the basic furniture.
Thanks in advance

Changing brokerage account for my NISA
Hi! Found this forum to be very useful for newbies like me :) I have a question I was hoping anyone had experienced before. I am planning to change brokerage account (I am currently with Rakuten). The reason for this is that I am changing jobs and it will be very convenient to move to a brokerage fi...
