Re: Message for UK pension enthusiasts…
I was considering giving them a call, but then realised that Skype has been discontinued by Microsoft, so I have no cost-effective means to call the UK. Skype still works until May, might as well use up and credit you have left 😉 May 5th, to be precise: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/skype/sky...

Re: Calling HMRC in March 2025
I suspect the time-consuming bit is that someone needs to take the lump sum and manually reconcile it with payments for individual years, and they have a massive backlog and likely not enough people. I'm sure there must be a more efficient way of doing it though... As mentioned in another thread on ...

Re: UK Pension & Voluntary Payments Questions
Thanks for the info, CToshika, Out of interest, did you phone the Future Pensions Centre using the UK 0800 number - or the number for phoning from outside the UK? I ask because the outside UK number always drops on me after I select for the Pension Payment option. I’m seriously considering choosing...

Re: How to file a kakutei shinkoku without a my number card?
I do mine online (PC, not smartphone) without the aid of a Mynumber card, but I had to go to the tax office to apply for an account. Note this would have been around 2019, so not sure if the same procedure still applies.

Re: UK Pension & Voluntary Payments Questions
Side note - the reason why I'm faffing about with this so close to the deadline is because I read that 3 qualifying years of NICs are needed, and as I left the UK when I was 18, I assumed I wouldn't have those, *but* I did have a part-time supermarket job and it seems that even though I only had it ...

Re: UK Pension & Voluntary Payments Questions
FWIW I submitted CF83 online in January and received a letter from HMRC last week confirming what I need to pay, though the process on actually paying is as clear as mud. It starts off: "Before paying any shortfall, it is important to find out if your state pension will increase once you've pai...

Re: Sanity check: no need to file earnings from a Tokutei Kouza?
However, you MAY have a better tax rate than the Withholding Tax Rate if you include them in your Kakutei Shinkoku... It depends on the level of your Total Taxable Income after all Deductions and Allowances. For Dividends from Japanese Companies, under the Aggregate Taxation Method for Dividends, y...

Sanity check: no need to file earnings from a Tokutei Kouza?
Hi Just in the process of doing my tax return, and want to sanity check the reporting requirements for earnings from my Tokutei Kouza (特定口座), as it's the first year I've had this. I have a single Tokutei Kouza (with SBI) It is set to "特定口座(源泉徴収あり)", so tax is already deducted from each tra...
