Re: Cautionary tale for those investing in foreign assets

It is through Monex using Tradestation app to trade US securities. The account is automatic tax witholding so they presented me with a next day tax bill for about a months wages... I can pay it from savings but quite annoying.

Cautionary tale for those investing in foreign assets

I decided to take the plunge and rebalance my portfolio to be a bit more agressive, shifting some allocation from bonds to stocks. Sold a few hundred shares of BND and bought some VTI in my taxable account. Sell price in USD was actually slightly below my average cost basis so I thought this would b...

Re: Selling Gold in Japan

So an update on this. I decided to go back to the shop where I originally bought it after trying a few other specialist PM places in the OKachimachi area and asked for a more detailed description of what was going on. Staff were quite willing to explain, it seems that this is stemming from the big r...

Re: Selling Gold in Japan

Could be a few things… 1. There is a lot of “fake” gold going around Asia. https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Caixin/Mystery-of-2bn-of-loans-backed-by-fake-gold-in-China A lot of businesses use weight to verify the metal, and not those fancy gold verification devices. So, they may not want to take a...

Selling Gold in Japan

So, a few years ago I invested a portion of my portfolio into physical gold. Yes, yes I know but I was channeling my inner dragon. Anyway, I tried to sell a 100g Valcambi bar today as I need some cash due to moving house and got rejected from every place as they would only take "foreign gold&qu...

Re: Go To Travel campaign

FYI if you book through agoda.com then the discount will be automatically applied for eligible hotels, as long as you can prove you are not a Tokyo resident. Used it for a business trip last week, got a 80m2 corner suite room in Osaka for ¥7000 per night, good stuff.

Re: Insurance policy-time to bail?

I have a similar policy but mine is only ~¥3000 per month. They offered me about ¥2,000,000 at 65 OR 100% free hospitalized healthcare after 65. I figured, with inflation and compared to what my investments will be worth by that time,I could pass on the 2 million and just go for the free hospitalize...

Re: What does your wallet look like?

About ¥20,000 cash, Amazon Mastercard (1% back on all purchases, 2.5% on Amazon with free Amazon Prime) and the Residence card/Health insurance card combo. Oh and a couple of business cards just in case I find myself needing to hand one out and I don't have my card holder with me.

Yeah, I get calls from these guys as well as others semi-regularly.
Nothing to do really but ignore them.

Re: Actual pension figures

The figures in this thread are very interesting, congratulations to those of you who have retired! Personally I am planning retirement without even considering the state pension, it will just be bonus money as I'm not convinced I will be getting it by the time I retire in ~30 years (assuming no earl...
