2. Fill the Nisa, use the lump sum tsumitste features as well. Put the rest in a taxable account.
We know lump sum is statistically the best choice, anything else is a behavioral decision.
I might add 5-10% to cash holdings, but I'm strictly equities/cash.

Re: Adult Children Born with Dual Nationality
A few weeks ago I saw a post on Reddit Japanlife (probably got deleted though) about a son who encouraged his Japanese mother to naturalize American because she had lived in the US for like 20+ years but planned to live in Japan for retirement. Apparently the Japanese embassy in the US found out sh...

Re: iphone 14 1円
These phones are not 1 yen, your rental fee is baked into the contract. You end up paying quite a lot over the term of the contract. You are essentially leasing a phone. You'll be responsible for any damage etc after those two years. I would recommend buying a phone out of pocket and and using an MN...

Re: I do not know where to start
What are your nationalities? Do you have brokerage accounts in your home countries? General advice for 5 years is: 1.Skip ideco 2. Strongly consider NISA (non-Americans) 3. Consider a strategy you can replicate back in your home country. 4. Have a home country brokerage setup as well. 5. I would sa...

Re: Selling in tokutei and rebuying in NISA growth
I am also wondering about this. Any advice? I maxed out all 3.6m of my NISA allowance in 2024 after selling my house (the whole lot in eMaxis Slim All Country). A little while later, I bought six shares of NVIDIA in my tokutei account. Due to the stock split in June 2024, I now have sixty shares of...

Re: Cancelled English Camp, where's my refund?
My experience with lawyers is that it will cost about 100,000 yen to get them to write a letter for you. So for this amount of money it might not be worth it, even if you manage to find more victims. Personally I would make sure your public school system knows about these issues so they don't conti...

Re: I do not know where to start
And if you plan to be in Japan for the long haul: OP said they plan to be in Japan 5-7 years, ie not the long haul. Please try to respond to the actual posts rather than generically. You you consider adding a mandatory "Are you a US taxpayer/citizen" to forum applications and automaticall...

Re: Anyone else thinking of dumping their BNDX holdings?
That is probably how it works. If interest rates rise, then prices of existing bond issues will need to decrease in order for the yield to remain competitive with the newly issued bonds. Last summer, I bought some Vanguard Total International Bond (BNDX) and some Vanguard Intermediate-Term Treasury...

Re: Anyone else thinking of dumping their BNDX holdings?
locking in a loss had better be worth it. Isn't it a bit different with bonds? Because the price reflects the value of the coupon payments. So if interest rates rise, you've already lost. You can choose to sell at a loss, or hold and accept lower dividends than you could get elsewhere. Disclaimer: ...
