Re: Moving outside of Japan

Adam I take the point about US tax treatment of assets held overseas, but the wider question of 'what happens to my NISA if I move overseas permanently or temporarily' is probably useful to a number of people. Ok got it. Was clarifying because you specifically quoted the point about PFICs and that'...

ETFs being wound up

Question is: Do Toshi shintaku trusts also get wound up? There's a bit of background to explain the question: One of the ETFs I have 'Nikkei 400 Small and Mid-cap' (ticker: 1492, Mitsubishi UFJ) is being wound up because it's become too small and now inefficient to run. It's mostly in a general acco...

Re: Moving outside of Japan

This might be the biggest point in Tkydon's post.avoid issues. But again, I'm no expert on this. I looked into what happens to NISA investments if you go abroad and are non-tax resident in Japan for say a year. The point is less about being Japanese tax resident, and more about what restrictions be...

Re: Moving outside of Japan

You will need to be careful when you receive your US Greencard that you don't fall foul of PFIC. (Others can elaborate) This might be the biggest point in Tkydon's post. I'm not sure of the details, but it might pragmatically mean basing all your investments in US brokerages instead of Japanese one...

Re: Questions about Building Dividend Stock Portfolio

Hello, l'm hoping someone could help me with this: Is there a significant difference (aside from currency exchange rate) between investing directly in the VYM ETF in USD through SBI and getting a Japanese fund that benchmarks the VYM, like the SBI-SBI V US High Dividend Stock Index Fund? My income ...

Re: Questions about Building Dividend Stock Portfolio

Maybe I’m looking at the wrong tab on the SBI website. All other dividend stock options I see that are NISA compatible are similar to the one I posted above. SBI Dividend yield ranking: https://site0.sbisec.co.jp/marble/fund/ranking/fundranking.do?Param6=yield&Param7=monthly&Param8=all http...

Re: Representative Director - Risks without Rewards

I became 代表取締役, kind of by default, for a small company I was a senior manager at when the then CEO and代表取締役, who was terminally ill, decided to give back her gaijin card to immigration on the spur of the moment when she went to Europe to spend more time with her boyfriend. It was only after all the...

Re: Name issues: examples needed

My first name and family are 18 letters in total. Middle name brings it up to 24, not including spaces. While this wasn't a problem for Bigcamera CC, which is simply printed, when I applied at SMBC for a Visa credit card, the bank clerk dealing with my application said that due to the character limi...

Re: Selling NISA: FIFO?

Yes it is FIFO. Re: New Nisa - Details on the allowed index funds in the Tsumitate Portion

I was looking to see what funds Monex has for the tsumitate portion of the shin NISA, and there are currently 199 of them. This intro page: https://info.monex.co.jp/nisa/nisa2024/index.html gets you to this link: https://fund.monex.co.jp/search?nisa%5BRESERVE_FUND_NISA_FUND%5D=on for the online list...
