Inheriting a private pension from a deceased parent in the UK
Hello all, I have a question, which is rather on the niche side, but was hoping someone might be able to throw some light, before I talk to a tax person. So basically my father passed away in UK and although there was no estate or cash to inherit, he did have a private pension plan with Standard Lif...

Re: Visa, Mastercard, or AMEX?
Thanks for everyone's input. Maybe I will get Mastercard then this time to diversify and in case I shop at Costco. I heard that MC is less common than Visa in Japan, not sure if that's true. Are there any potential disadvantages going with Mastercard in Japan that anyone is aware of? The only benef...

Re: Rakuten Card asking twice for zairyu card
Hi, Have any Rakuten Cards users on here recently received an email request for a zairyu card copy, followed by a snail mail request five days later? The snail mail version didn't mention it was sent out regardless of whether the user had already uploaded. There were no error messages when I upload...

Re: Keeping a UK bank account open and active using a family member's UK address
If you live in Japan your UK banks need to have your My Number. Thanks, but if you read my original post, you will see that my UK bank does not know I live in Japan Unless you use a VPN to access your UK bank online services, they can easily send you a CRS request asking you to verify your tax resi...

Re: Keeping a UK bank account open and active using a family member's UK address
Thanks, but if you read my original post, you will see that my UK bank does not know I live in Japan If the UK bank requires you to be resident in the UK and you aren't... then I suppose you are committing fraud. But is it a crime in this case? I doubt it. I think the worse that can happen is they'...

Re: Keeping a UK bank account open and active using a family member's UK address
Thanks. Well they have my UK address, also they have my TIN, which in the UK is your National Insurance number (which never changes) If you live in Japan your UK banks need to have your My Number. Thanks, but if you read my original post, you will see that my UK bank does not know I live in Japan

Re: Sending money to my Japan bank account from UK with WISE
I have heard anything over 100,000 yen is reported to the tax office. Some banks will routinely question even small transfers. The key issue is not whether it gets flagged, but whether you owe taxes due to the transfer. If not, then even if it is flagged you can generally explain and get it cleared...

Re: Keeping a UK bank account open and active using a family member's UK address
This is a complex issue. I have had a NatWest account for a very long time (got it when I was 12). They have my address in Japan and my My Number. They send me new debit cards to Japan. However, recently in the UK banks are increasingly closing accounts of non-residents. Hasn't happened to me yet, ...

Sending money to my Japan bank account from UK with WISE
Hi folks, I hear that so long as the amount of Yen sent is under 1 million, then it will not be flagged. How true is this? If I send amounts of 999,999 Yen once per month for 4 months in a row, these will not be flagged? I find that hard to believe. If anyone knows the answer from experience, please...

Keeping a UK bank account open and active using a family member's UK address
Hi guys, I am from the UK, but I have lived in Japan for more than 15 years. I still have a UK bank account which is active and it does get used at least once a month, moving small amounts of money around to family in the UK and storing some of my savings etc. But this particular bank wont let me up...
