Re: Home loan possible for retiree?

Heck, I'm just curious to hear from any other FIRE people out there that have retired early in terms of experience trying to get a bank loan in Japan.

Re: Home loan possible for retiree?

Loving this forum & so much appreciate everyone's input! Yes, I also can't understand why employment income is somehow considered more secure than retirement income. I guess the FIRE people living in Japan better take this in consideration if they haven't already purchased a home. At any rate, w...

Home loan possible for retiree?

I'm a Japanese resident with significant retirement income. I currently work part time as well, but so far SBI Shinsei and SMBC Prestia where I have accounts with have told me I can't get a home loan if I don't have "full-time" employment. Anyone else able to qualify for home loan in Japan...

Re: Wise now has a Tier 1 license: large transfers coming soon

Smalldog, We decided to delete the Wise account. Wise customer service is incredibly incompetent. They can't even tell us how to link my wife's Japanese bank account. Can't answer basic Qs. This was my second call to customer service and neither agent knew how to advise us or help us set up a transf...

Re: Wise now has a Tier 1 license: large transfers coming soon

Thanks for the quick reply Smalldog! I will contact them again. Meantime, can you share how exactly you get the money into the Wise account for transferring and what service charges you pay to move the money from your bank to Wise. Are you able move all the money at one time or are you restricted to...

Re: Wise now has a Tier 1 license: large transfers coming soon

Hi, I'm new to using Wise. I was recently helping my Japanese spouse sign up for an account. She want to send a large sum of inheritance money (10 million) to her brother in the US. So far it's been a real headache trying to do that through Yucho. They wanted all kinds of documentation to show famil...

Re: Tax on world wide income 5 of 10 years Qs

Yes, of course, no problem & I will. Also, just read this in the Status of Forces Agreement between the US and Japan, Article XIII, paragraph 2, ...Periods during which such persons are in Japan solely by reason of being members of the United States armed forces, the civilian component, or their...

Re: Tax on world wide income 5 of 10 years Qs

Captainspoke, Thank you for your reply. I checked the following link that you provided me last fall, which appears to say that I would be considered a "non-resident" for tax purposes until I have lived in Japan at least one year. https://www.nta.go.jp/taxes/shiraberu/shinkoku/tebiki/2021/p...
