Re: Moving investments out of Japan

Quick update for those that are interested. I recently emailed Monex Australia again to check in and they gave me a short reply that due to changes in regulations that can no longer transfer assets from Japan to Australia. So, I'm now emailing Interactive Brokers. I guess I should have started with ...

2520 NF新興国株式ヘ無 (Developing economy stocks, unhedged) Edit- It seems your subsequent assessment was right but your initial description was wrong. Thus the confusion. Re: Moving investments out of Japan

To clariffy 2559 All Country 2520 All Country (MINUS) Emerging markets, AKA developed country EM is only 12% of 2559. Total your choice, but your capping the upside with covered call etfs. Good luck with the process, I am sure other Australians would love a write up after you are through. Thanks. P...

Re: Moving investments out of Japan

Great, it seems logical. More flexibility. Are you going to try to open a broker in your home country? You probably will not be able to transfer these funds out of Japan, but you can sell in Japan and rebuy in your home country gradually to reduce getting left behind by market movement. A few comme...

Re: Moving investments out of Japan

Thanks all for your advice! I have completed my transition from e-maxis slim mutual funds to ETFs on the TSE! Here's what I did: - I sold all of my mutual funds, over the course of about a week, a few weeks ago. I now have an entry in "realised profit/loss" for the first time. - I bought a...

Re: Moving investments out of Japan

I think in preparation for moving from Rakuten to IBKR or Monex (Aus), I will sell my emaxis slim funds (mostly all country, but have some others) and buy Maxis ETFs. There are other providers that might be slightly cheaper, but I guess I'm sold on their brand at this point :) See https://maxis.muka...

Re: Nikkei 225 - Covered Call ETF

It's now on Rakuten Securities as "GX日経カバコ (2858) " and will start trading today. You may be right about カバコETFs being not so useful for long term accumulation. They seem to be very popular with the FIRE crowd on YouTube (you'll find tens of videos on QYLD for example). If regular income i...

Re: Moving investments out of Japan

The Rakuten Securities help page has a section about what happens if you leave without telling them (i.e. submitting the paperwork) :) See the "手続きを完了せずに出国された口座、非居住者であることが判明した口座への対応" section. You won't be able to trade, they will sell your products they don't think you can own any more, a...

Re: PayPay - Send Money Feature -> Highly Recommended!

I use PayPay a lot. The main reason is you'll find a lot of small shops accept only cash or PayPay. I'm not sure why, it may be because PayPay has zero or low fees for merchants, but I find that if a place accepts non-cash payments they usually accept PayPay. If card is an option I'll use Rakuten fo...

Re: Nikkei 225 - Covered Call ETF

I've had QYLD (also from Global X) in my portfolio for a while and really appreciate the monthly stream of USD I can reinvest (in US stocks or in more QYLD) now the USD is strong. I've always wanted something like this for JPY so I can reinvest, or even just use to offset monthly expenses. I know th...
