Re: LOW retirement income-how about insurance/taxes?
Thank you, Tkydon, for that very detailed reply. I need to reread it and go to all your links. However, real quick, I am aware of the "based on last year's salary" part of the taxation/insurance. My husband retired in 2023 and our combined health insurance was almost ¥900,000! I did know i...

Re: LOW retirement income-how about insurance/taxes?
That is just pension. Don't worry, we have money to live on! I was just wondering about how the insurance/taxes would play out on such a low annual income. I thought there might be other part timers here who have retired with a similar low pension.
Thanks.
Thanks.

higher rate on savings?

Re: Budgeting for house maintenance
if you have damage to your roof it can be claimed on fire insurance. We just got back 400,000 yen on a 650,000 yen repair. I told a friend about this and her company paid 270,000 on a 240,000 repair!!!!

Totalization and age (US)
My husband is Japanese and will retire next spring (2023) at 65. He worked in the US (about 11 years) and wants to apply for his US paid social security to be part of his Japanese pension (totalization treaty). According to the US system, his official full retirement benefit age is 66.6 years old. I...
