Re: Hedging against a stock market crash

This is not meant to be scaremongering. It's just a question from an ignorant investor to some of the more level-headed, knowledgeable folks out there. I have no doubt this subject has come up before on this forum before but I can't seem to find much - apologies if you are all sick to death of the ...

Re: Social insurance potentially being added to financial income

Thanks for your article. It is something I had been thinking about recently and was sort of expecting due to the reason explained by Deep Blue in his post. I would be surprised if they did it for NISA as it would be so contradictory. But I would be much less surprised if they decided this for taxabl...

Re: Social insurance potentially being added to financial income

Yes the maximum public health insurance premium is capped. This cap depends on where you live (locally decided) but this is quite high. 1.2 mio where I am.

Re: Rakuten 5 year 4.84% thing

https://www.rakuten-sec.co.jp/web/bond/foreignbond/products/20230925/ My Japanese isn't quite good enough to fully understand this. The big headline seems to be 5 years @ 4.84% (before tax). It's a bold headline but surely it's not a guaranteed return. Or is it? And what might the catch here be? So...

Re: E-filing Japanese taxes in English

Hello, I was told by a Japanese tax accountant that it is easy to do my American taxes online. I can file it myself. He said there is an English version. I was like, huh? Anyone know anything about this? I use Turbotax in the states, but I didn't know there was (or seems to be) an equivalent in Jap...

Re: Selling an inherited house

This issue of capital gains tax on an inherited overseas property is a bit worrying for sure. I wonder how many foreigners living in Japan know about it and actually pay it? If they don't pay it (accidentally or otherwise) then how would the NTA find out? Maybe if and when the money was transferred...

Recommendation of tax accountant

I am seeking a good tax accountant with expertise in cross-border issues. I have assets abroad and recently sold real property in a foreign country. While English proficiency is preferred, I have no problem communicating in Japanese. Expertise and competence are more important! It may have been disc...

Re: Tax situation after retirement

Thank you. By the way, does anyone know a reliable tax accountant in Tokyo? In addition to the impact on public health insurance premiums, I also need to consult regarding tax filing for the real estate sale, declaration of foreign assets exceeding 50 million, and tax filing for inheritance. Languag...

Re: Tax situation after retirement

I am currently retired and paying for kokumin kenko hoken. I recently sold some real estate abroad, and I'm aware that I need to declare this income in Japan and pay 20% income tax and resident tax. However, I'm curious whether this sale will also affect the public health insurance premium I'll be r...
