Re: PR Application - Experience
I didn't see such a document, so if they indeed filled one out on my behalf, it could be fun to have a look at it. One document I did need to get is some kind of certificate from a Japanese person or someone already with a PR to state that I'm basically a good guy. (I pay my NHK fees; that's how go...

Re: Do you use ChatGPT or similar tools?
I sometimes use it for conversation. Just to have another semi-sentient "being" to chat with. I find it has a lot of difficulty with sarcasm. I have found some errors with its output too, so that makes me wonder about using it for anything really important. on my team at work (i'm an engin...

Re: Roth withdrawal question
My understanding is that it wouldn't be considered income but rather a potential capital gain. Anyone have experience with withdrawing from these accounts from Japan? My guess would have been retirement income. Similar to how the lump sum withdraw component of a iDeCo would be taxed (and then pensi...

Translation service
Hello all -
I am trying to find a company/service to help with translating a Japanese document (real estate) to English. Has anyone worked with any other company or service for something like this?
thanks

Thanks to both of you for the review and responses.

Roth withdrawal question
Hello all - I will need to withdraw some funds from one of the retirement accounts that I have in the US. One is a traditional IRA/401K, the other is Roth IRA. From what I have read online (in the Reddit Japan Finance forum) , and some other miscellaneous articles...there doesn't seem to be an absol...

Re: home purchase while still on work visa
Thanks for the reply.
That is a good suggestion about trying to pay with cash and not worry about the loan.

home purchase while still on work visa
hello all... lately, we (my wife and i) have accelerated our plans about buying a home. We were going to wait a couple of years, until i officially retire....but recently, we've been thinking it would be a good time to buy, and so she could be closer to her family. We're in Tokyo, and her family is ...

Re: PR Application - Experience
I applied last September, so about 8 months ago. At the time i was also told (by the immigration lawyer i am working with) that it is normally about 9 to 12 months before the immigration authority returns with a "verdict". Hopefully, i will hear before the end of the year.
