Re: Home (and earthquake) insurance
If there is no Earthquake, it's a cost. If there is an Earthquake, and you are displaced because your building is damaged, you would get some compensation... Thank you for your answer. I guess until now I didn't really see the need for such insurance since I don't own the place, and the things I ow...

Home (and earthquake) insurance
Hello everyone, I'm reaching out to inquire about your experiences with home insurance. Currently, I'm renting a place that I discovered years ago through イエブル. As part of my rental agreement, there's a mandatory insurance policy covering fire, water damage, and related issues. From what I gather, t...

Yes, this new invoice system will be important in dealing with your customers, assuming your customers will be companies and not individuals.

Re: Do you use ChatGPT or similar tools?
Usually, it's something like this: "Below is a draft for xxx (kind of relation we have with the person, for example "a contractor") regarding yyy (main topic of the e-mail). Do you see any points to improve?" Then, I copy/paste the draft. You may want to avoid real names in your ...

Re: Do you use ChatGPT or similar tools?
I use Gemini daily for: Translations — English to Japanese and Japanese to English. Very useful and a real time-saver, especially when I need to write business nihon-go, which I can't. Of course, you need to speak the language to at least review the writing and be sure Gemini did convey your message...

Re: NISA and IDeCo - best investment fund choices
No, it's not about the risk, it's about the currency. Ideco has a tax free allowance. There are then three cases: yen is getting 1) much stronger, 2) much weaker 3) stays the same, compared to the other currencies that impact your investment (which for an all-world ETF would be dominantly USD). [.....

Re: NISA and IDeCo - best investment fund choices
You can also mix them and use one in NISA and one in ideco. (better to use topix in ideco and all-world in nisa) May I ask your reasoning behind this? If I had to guess, I'd say it's because you consider the Topix slightly riskier, so it's better to play it on long-term, hence the iDeco, whereas th...

Re: Tracking Finances in Japan
I'm not quite sure if it's the kind of software you're looking for, but I use GnuCash — and the free version of MoneyTree to get the latest updates on my credit cards and bank accounts. It's cold, but it also forces you to get familiar with accounting concepts, even to manage your personal finances....

Re: What to do with cash? Safe, liquid investment options?
I use ShinseiBank パワーダイレクト円定期預金, with monthly, 3-month or possibly 6-month investment. Of course, I do retain some cash at all time. I usually go with the monthly investment since the 3-month or 6-month period carries the same interest rate, but yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised to see that for ...
