Re: Assets to buy in JPY with this high rate

If I assume that the JPY will strengthen against the USD over the long term (i.e., back to 110-120 in 3-4 years), would it make more sense to buy the dip in equities using a hedged fund such as "iFree 外国株式インデックス(為替ヘッジあり)" rather than the eMaxis Slim funds? Is anyone else investing in hedg...

Re: Paying half Hoken or full Hoken

Thank you all for all the advice, it has been great! Albeit it has been a humbling experience! Realizing how little I know about the subject of retirement. But, I would rather ask stupid question than be ignorant. So here is a stupid question, I started this conversation thinking that I needed to i...

Re: One-time increase in contrib. amt. to Tsumitate NISA in Rakuten

I have tried to set up the bonus payment, though the system did not allow me to claiming I would have exceeded yearly contribution. Is Tsumitate Nisa yearly allowance counted from Jan to Dec or is it counted as one year from the month started (in my case I started in June, so it would be June to Ma...

Re: Paying half Hoken or full Hoken

On a side note, I didn't pay any nenkin at all for my first 15 years in Japan. I don't recall anyone asking me for it (or maybe they did once, at the start, but not after that), and didn't appreciate that it was mandatory for a foreigner until I started visiting this site. I figured wrongly that si...

Re: Paying half Hoken or full Hoken

I have really been hanging out with the wrong crowd. It has become painful obvious that Nenkin is the best (safest) investment, if you have no other investment to speak of. I have a little extra money, should I try to do a Nenkin pay back? Paying retro for the missed years? Nenkin is a good foundat...

Re: Post JISA Investing

1. I think gift tax rules might be a larger issue with this strategy. These rules, when it comes to investing in a child's account, with your own money are not clear. However any profit from a sale in their accounts must be used "for them" I believe. 2. You still need to pay city tax on th...

Re: Rakuten Cash/楽天キャッシュ

Is signing up for the auto charge/minimum floor a requirement during placing the order? The auto-charge feature is on the Rakuten Pay side, right? So is it possible to cancel it afterwards on the Pay side, whilst still keeping the Tsumitate order activate on the Securities side? Then we'd just need...

Re: Paying half Hoken or full Hoken

If you are deemed eligible for reduced or waived kokumin nenkin, you accrue benefits at the following rate: fully exempt (1/2 benefit) 3/4 exempt (5/8 benefit) 1/2 exempt (6/8 benefit) 1/4 exempt (7/8 benefit) https://www.nenkin.go.jp/service/kokunen/menjo/20150428.html So op will pay 8,300 x2 and ...

Re: Rakuten Cash/楽天キャッシュ

For anyone considering this, I'd recommend inputting the new tsumitate order in July rather than this month. If you do it this month the auto charge/minimum floor means you will pay for the funds bought at the start of August via the end of July's credit card bill payment. If you signup in July (be...

Re: Paying half Hoken or full Hoken

I applied for Nenkin and was told that I could be exempt for paying it. My wife and I did just that, and consider ourselves lucky. But, are we really? If you can afford to pay full nenkin it might be worth doing so (as well as iDeCo, fuka nenkin, or kokumin nenkin kikin). Oliver, give us the detail...
