Re: Being stopped by the police

Just once and it was a training exercise just before the Tokyo Olympics. I was stopped nearby a large police station, but all three policemen were in plain clothes. The eldest one showed me his badge and did all the talking, he explained that they stopped me because I was looking at my phone while c...

Re: Used cars surprisingly cheap (?)

So looking at things like Honda N-Box or similar vehicles from Toyota, Daihatsu, Suzuki etc. They are incredibly cheap. Like lots of cars for less than 1,000,000 yen. Actually lots for 300,000-400,000 yen. Yes they have 120-180,000 Km (100,000 miles) but they appear very clean. I understand these c...

Re: Income tax deduction for dependents not residing in Japan

You are expected to provide actual proof of funds remitted to support the dependent, and there is an unwritten expectation that the total amount remitted will be greater than the amount of the deduction, so more than Y380,000 per dependent, or Y630,000 in the case of students between 19 and 22. Is ...

Re: Books on investing in Italian

A bit of a long shot, but I'm hoping that there are some Italian people here who may be able to help. I'm looking for a present for a 14 years old family friend who is Italian. I wanted to give him a book about money or investing to get him interested early. The book will need to be written in simp...

Re: £10k- how to invest

Thanks for the input.
Until now I was under the impression that a lot of the investment options in the UK are only available to residents. Will look into the options called out in the replies.

£10k- how to invest

I have some money sitting in my UK back account and not doing much work. I'd like to use £10k of it and invest. I currently live and work here in Japan and have no plans to leave. I also max out all tax advantaged investment options and put some extra in my taxable Rakuten securities account. The fi...

Re: Surrounded by a cafe and dog run?!

I wanted to buy the land, but since I am not a farmer I was unable to do so as long as it was classified as agricultural land. Anyone can buy mountain land though. Don't mean to be hijacking this thread, but this sounds very interesting. I recently found an interesting piece of land, mostly mountai...

Re: Surrounded by a cafe and dog run?!

Personally, I have converted agricultural land to mountain land. Just curious. Why did you do this? Is it harder to rezone mountain land? I wanted to buy the land, but since I am not a farmer I was unable to do so as long as it was classified as agricultural land. Anyone can buy mountain land thoug...
